NOW OPEN FOR ENROLMENT! WE START ON 27TH FEBRUARY -

A white logo with white text, and an open book with flowers sprouting from it set against a dark blue background with random, swirling grey lines.
A cover of the Artist's Way by Julia Cameron set at an angle.

Elizabeth Gilbert claims she couldn’t have written Eat, Pray, Love without it.

Kerry Washington says it completely changed her life.

Tim Ferris swears by it’s morning pages.

And it’s revered as THE book for all things creativity and creative living.

But… how many of us have actually FINISHED the Artist’s Way?

I know I haven’t!

(And spoiler alert, neither has Tim Ferris!)

We’ve all heard how fabulous The Artist’s Way by Julia Cameron is. We’ve heard it’s magical, we’ve heard it’s life-changing and just how much it could elevate and improve our creative lives.

but…

How many of us have started it with the best intentions only to get two weeks in - if that - and found it too bit overwhelming, (and a little too strict) to keep to?

How many times have we started but found life just gets in the way, or found the demands on our time and energy just inaccessible?

Around here, we’re rebels, and for the most part, we resist structure - especially strict structure.

A lot of us are also neuro-spicy and find sticking to things and finishing things challenging. It then becomes yet another stick to beat ourselves with, instead of a fun adventure.

So, I got to thinking…how can we get the magic, ditch what doesn’t work, and do it OUR OWN WAY?

and reclaim that sense of fun adventure?

A white logo with white text, and an open book with flowers sprouting from it set against a dark blue organic style circle.

A 6-month group program where we actually finish The Artist’s Way.

It’s time to do The Artist’s Way, rebel-style!

Black, scratchy text, 'here's what we're gonna do', with a light pink, chalk style underlining what.

We’re gonna ditch the strictness and the rigidity

Practice being B- students

Extract the magic kernels!

We’re not gonna judge ourselves when we don’t do the morning pages, we’re not gonna do all the exercises, and we’re gonna keep the good shit, and ignore the stuff that doesn’t apply!

We’re not gonna dot our ‘i’s and cross our ‘t’s, and we’re gonna give ourselves the amount of time that we have, versus the amount of time we think we ‘should’ have.

We’re gonna do it our own damn way, pull out the magic kernels, and soak in the richness, together.

And most importantly…

we’re gonna do it together.

There is such magic to be found in community, and one of my superpowers is bringing the right people together at the right time. My group programmes are known for feeling like a hug in a mug, with so much kindness, empathy, encouragement and laughter.

You’ll be doing and FINISHING the Artist’s Way with a community of likeminded women who really get it, and together we’ll all be showing up for our own creative journeys.

Black, scratchy text, 'and here's how we're gonna do it', with a dark blue, chalk style underlining how.

First of all, we’re not gonna do it in 12 weeks, instead were gonna double the time. We all have busy lives, we all have enough to be doing, so we’re gonna start with taking the pressure off and make it fucking easier on ourselves!

Here’s what The Rebel Artist’s Way involves:

Bi-weekly group calls text in white set against a bright pink arch shape.

Every other Thursday, we’ll gather to do a deep dive into a chapter, share insights, takeaways, do one of the exercises and come away with a really full cup!

Private community text in White set against a dark blue arch shape.

Between calls there will be a private group (not on Facebook) to stay connected, share updates, wins and wobbles. This is completely optional. You might want to use it for gentle accountability for Morning Pages and Artist’s Dates, or have more discussions about what’s coming up for you!

Dedicated reading time text in white set against a dark pink arch shape.

Before our calls, I’ll open the Zoom room up for us to catch up on the reading if we haven’t done it already! (I worked it out and at most, it will be 25 for each call, and often less than that!)

Monthly artist's date text in white set against a bright yellow arch shape.

Sometimes the only way things happen is if they’re in the diary! So we’ll be gathering online once a month to body double as we do an artist date!

“I feel stronger to face what I need to do and know that I have wonderful women cheering me on. I learnt so much from these amazing women. The openness and willingness to share was just awesome.”

The reason we find it so difficult to finish The Artist’s Way, is because…

Well, in short, it’s a bit much.

Julia Cameron recommends spending 7-10 hours on The Artist’s Way which she describes as a ‘modest commitment’. Well, I kindly say fuck that: that’s inaccessible to most of us, and off putting at best.

I personally feel that this is too intensive, and have struggled to stay committed to the programme, and many people I have spoken to have felt the same way, some describing it as inaccessible in it’s current format.

The Rebel Artist’s Way will be very different, but still honouring the original programme:

  • Rather than doing a chapter every week, we’re gonna give ourselves more time and take two weeks for each chapter. Calls will be bi-weekly, to allow for a week in-between for everyone to catch up/digest the reading/live their lives(!).

  • We’re also gonna be getting flexible with morning pages? Mornings? If you want to! Daily? Ish.

  • There are MANY tasks and exercises at the end of each chapter. We will only be focusing on ONE together. (You are welcome to do more than one, but we’ll be breaking our good girl habits and intentionally not trying to do it all!)

  • We’ll be aiming for ONE Artist’s Date a month, which we’ll be doing together. By all means, do a weekly Artist’s Date but there will be no expectation or reprimand for not doing so.

We’re not gonna try and do it all. We’re gonna have dedicated time and space to explore the themes, dive into the goodness, take what works for us, and ditch the rest, and do it together in a supportive group who just get it, without judgement, without pressure, and with a shared dream of creating a life we love.

about your facilitator!

📸 Rachel Burt

Hi, I'm Meg and I’m a multi-passionate, neuro-spicy, sassy rebel.

Like many, I know there is so much helpful shit in The Artist’s Way, but I’ve also found it’s too rigid. I have struggled to stay committed to the programme, and SO many people I have spoken to have felt the same way.

So, we’re gonna do it differently and I’m gonna be doing it right alongside you. I’ll be sharing my own messy process, battling through the fear and on my own journey of creative discovery and recovery with you.
With me as your guide, and a fabulous group of multi-passionate and creative women, we’ll work through The Artist’s Way together, explore our creativity and take practical action towards building a courageous creative life we love.

I struggle with calling myself creative, I struggle with rigid consistency, and if it’s out of sight, it’s truly out of mind. I’ve spent many years coming up with ways to work with my brain rather than against it, and I’ve spent the past 10+ years helping fellow multi-passionate women get shit done, show up for themselves and create a life they truly love.

“Creativity is like crabgrass - it springs back with the simplest bit of care.”

how past clients have described my approach and rebel programmes!

I have met peeps from all over doing all kinds of interesting things and we keep each other going. We are like a motley band of sailors led by an experienced captain who ensures all are safe, fed, loved and heading in their right directions. Meg leads with love, compassion, fierceness when needed (and always asking permission first). Don't hesitate for a second if the vibe intrigues - it's life changing

SAGE WHEELER

Meg has created a supportive and compassionate space where her warmth and humour shine through every activity. The range of these activities is excellent and provide opportunities to share life experiences and reflections with like-minded women.

ZENA KAMASH

I've never felt part of something that suits me so well, that I have actively wanted to stay a part of throughout, rather than drifting away, losing interest or motivation.

RACHEL WARRILLOW

I'm not really a joiner of things - clubs, communities, parties! - I feel awkward, or that I have to mask, or put in too much effort and I'm tired afterwards. Meg hosts and holds spaces beautifully and clearly, so we as members are free and supported to be and think and share and support each other. She cares and believes in each of us and what we're trying to do, and that spreads - I believe in my ability more than I did when I started, and I care about and believe in all the other women here too.

IN THE WORDS OF JULIA CAMERON…

“Stop telling yourself ‘it’s too late.

  • Stop waiting until you make enough money to do something you really love.

  • Stop telling yourself ‘It’s just my ego’, whenever you yearn for amore creative life.

  • Stop telling yourself that dreams don’t matter, that they are only dreams and that you should be more sensible.

  • Stop fearing that your family and friends would think you crazy.

  • Stop telling yourself that creativity isa luxury and that you should be grateful for what you’ve got.”

FAQs

DO I HAVE TO BE AN ‘ARTIST’?

No, The Artist’s Way is all about discovering and recovering your creative self - a big part of that journey might be about reclaiming your identity as an artist. Julia Cameron says the course is for “anyone interested in living more creatively through practicing art; even more broadly, any one interested in practicing the art of creative living.” The way I like to think about it is ways of creating a life you love!

I’VE HEARD IT’S QUITE SPIRITUAL / THERE ARE A LOT OF MENTIONS OF GOD

The Rebel Artist’s Way will take a more secular approach, and I myself with be substituting ‘God’ with ‘inspiration’. This will be done with respect for the original text, and we all will be respectful of everyone else’s beliefs or lack thereof.

Julia Cameron herself says “Remind yourself that to succeed in this course, no god concept is necessary” and When the word God is used in these pages, you may substitute the thought good orderly direction or flow. What we are talking about is a creative energy. God is a useful shorthand…”

The Rebel Rousers, and by association The Rebel Artist’s Way, is a safe, inclusive space, that has a zero-tolerance policy on discrimination, and before joining The Rebel Artist’s Way, all members must read and accept the
Community Guidelines.

WHEN ARE THE CALLS?

The themed calls based on The Artist’s Way chapters will start from the 27th February, and continue bi-weekly on a Thursday, 6.30pm-8.30pm (UK time) via Zoom. Converted to different timezones this means they are:

EST: 1.30pm-3.30pm

PST: 10.30pm-12.30pm

We’ll also have dedicated reading time 30 minutes before each call starts, to have a quiet place and space if you need to catch up on the reading! Entirely up to you!

The Artist's Dates will be monthly (also on Zoom), and will be held at different dates throughout the 6 months, but I will send out monthly reminder emails that will include all dates and times for the upcoming month, and general reminders as well.

WHAT IF I CAN’T ATTEND A CALL?

All calls will be recorded and uploaded to our Dashboard. The Dashboard is a secure, private home for all members of The Rebel Artist’s Way, and the replays will be available within 24 hours of the call happening.

WHAT PLATFORM WILL THE COMMUNITY GROUP BE ON?

The community group will be held on a free platform called MeWe.The interface is very similar to Facebook without the algorithm, and the bullshit. The community group is entirely optional.

I’VE PREVIOUSLY READ THE ARTIST’S WAY, WOULD THIS GROUP STILL BE RELEVANT?

Yes! The Rebel Artist’s Way will differ from many Artist’s Way groups and I’m a firm believer that each time you do something like The Artist’s Way, you get something different from it. Your insight of The Artists Way will be invaluable, and by joining The Rebel Artist’s Way you’ll be exploring the themes of the book through a different lens, and utilising the tools from the book in a less intensive way.

WHICH VERSION OF THE ARTIST’S WAY DO I NEED?

There are many different editions, but the main content is the same in all of them there's just some variety with some having forewords and pre-introductions and others not! The kindle version doesn't have quotes on the page like the book has (and the note-scribbling room), but that's the main difference. So get whichever version you want!

I HAVE ANOTHER QUESTION!

Send me an email: support [at] therebelrousers.com - I’ll be really honest and open as to whether I think it’s a good fit for you :)
