The Bristol Stool Chart for Getting Shit Done
As creatives and multi-passionates, it’s fair to say we’re rarely lacking in the ideas department. I have notebooks upon notebooks of ideas. (And when I’m lucky, past Meg leaves me an actual explanation of the idea so I can follow up with it later. Other times, it’s a vague scribble I can barely ready)
Well, The Bristol Stool Chart for Getting Shit Done has been on my mind for years. I love a metaphor, and I’m a firm believer that the personal development could do with a whole lot more fun and a sense of humour!
I could see it in my mind, and my love of talking about getting shit done WITH actual poop sounded seriously fun.
I mentioned it in passing to clients and to friends and they loved it. Except I couldn’t bring myself to create it. I wanted to do it justice.
And while it only existed in my head and as a vague anecdote, I didn’t have to test whether I could actually pull it off.
Fast forward about five years later, and I’m going through old notebooks, and it’s a lot sadder than it is inspiring. Sitting within these tatty books is idea after idea after idea of things that I remember being so excited about… and didn’t do. (This inspired my project: Operation: Get It Off The Fucking Hard Drive).
So I decided fuck it, it was time to bring the Bristol Stool Chart to life, and end my own creative constipation.
What started as quite a funny graphic which would make a great postcard turned into something genuinely helpful. You can download the chart below, but I also expanded it and, turned it into an unconventional self-coaching tool, which helps you identify where you are on the chart, and gives you tangible things you can do (like imperfect actions, pep talks and journal prompts) to make things firmer, loser, gain more consistency and find flow state.
An added bonus I didn’t see coming is that it serves as a real litmus test for my people.
It is a real turn-off for people who don’t like my style. The people who tend to find it offensive and vulgar are put off. But the people who love it? They are the exact kind of quirky, creative and multi-passionate women I create for and I would get on like a house on fire with over a good hot chocolate.
So whether you’re feeling creatively constipated, or like a puddle on the floor, I invite you to use my Bristol Stool Chart for Getting Shit Done. You can get yours below, and please share it with people in your life who would get a good laugh out of it!
And if you want to use it as a really helpful self-coaching tool, you can get the expanded version here!
