one woman band!

jessica’s story

During One Woman Band, Jessica worked on her business (which I'm SO excited for you to hear about in her own words), creating a compassionate structure and owning her creativity and I’m so excited to share my chat with her here!

Jessica Guerrero is such a role model for building a life around your values, and she's a sparkly reminder that this is your life and we have such an opportunity to make our lives a joyful adventure!

Meet Jessica!

Jessica is a creative multi-passionate nurse, and health and wellness coach. She's extremely curious and loves nothing more than an adventure. She is the founder of This Is Your Life Health & Wellness Coaching and she loves writing, taking pictures, meaningful connection with others and being in nature.

When you started One Woman Band, you were finishing up your health and wellness qualification and starting your business. Tell us more about your story and your fabulous mission!

While working in a traditional healthcare setting as a nurse leader, I saw the toll our current way of working was having on myself and my teams. We were always busy, and it seemed we had lost focus of why we were in healthcare. I felt disconnected from the people I had come into this career to serve, and it took a toll on my health and quality of life.

I found a program that sparked genuine curiosity and excitement and enrolled to get my Master’s degree. Midway through the program, I was struggling with what I wanted to do and found your amazing podcast The Daily Pep. It was like finding another key, and I followed my curiosity that maybe I could be a creative, multi-passionate human, and I could step outside of what the world expected of me, and strike out on my own. I began dreaming of a business that would help women connect with their own spark that comes from our authentic selves.

Now I have created something that brings me a tremendous amount of joy: a business where I work with women in healthcare, helping them figure out how to care for themselves in a way that is fun and sustainable, so they can live healthier lives with more joy and authenticity. My mission is to help every woman in healthcare show up as her best and most authentic self, so she can truly be present and fulfilled in her work and in her life.

I know one of the things that’s central to your work is your values. One of the main things I wanted to create with One Woman Band was a space for people with similar values to come together and support each other in a world that doesn’t always understand why we do what we do. How did you find being part of a like-minded and like-valued community?

Being in One Woman Band with a group of like-minded women gave me a safe place to explore what was new inside me. I was at the beginning of my journey to accepting my creativity and that I wanted to start a new business, and having a supportive community that I could show up to helped me build the confidence necessary to truly start on that path.

You know I am a visual person so here's my metaphor: it was like I had planted new seeds, and One Woman Band was what helped nourish those seeds to truly take root. It was the sunshine and water that I needed to be able to bloom. The connection with other women rooting for you allowed me to lean into vulnerability and feel like no matter what I couldn't lose. No matter what happened, I had the support of others to catch me.

Now, when it comes to going out on your own, we know it can be really scary, and there are lots of fear mountains to climb. How did One Woman Band help you navigate that terrain?

By providing a safe place for me to show up and truly discuss my fear. It works because everyone shows up vulnerable, and open. Also by providing compassionate structure- knowing I had invested in this group, and getting the time on my calendar to show up every week and do the work was SO liberating. It truly helped me show up, no matter what, and if it was a day of fear the group held space for that, and we all helped each other work through those moments.

Another great way was by validating the fear, just having you or someone else be like “yep I feel that way too, it's normal” was a game-changer. It helped me have a more positive inner monologue with my own fear, knowing I wasn’t alone.

The designated time of co-working helped my brain get more intentional and get more accomplished than I often do on my own! Co-working is transformational for people who struggle to sit down and get things done. I genuinely believe that it was one of the secrets to me being successful with getting things for my business done. I still co-work with friends every week!

You are a fabulous role model for building a business with your values at the centre, and really building it upon a framework of compassion and joy. What has helped you along the way? And what words of wisdom do you have for fellow rebel rousers starting a business?

I believe that ensuring a solid understanding of your why, and what values are being expressed for you by creating your business has been most important. I also think having the support of a community like One Woman Band , and other connections I have made with people in my field has been vital. The women of One Woman Band constantly inspired me, and helped me reflect on what I truly wanted out of a business. They helped me see that it was necessary to keep it simple, authentic to me, and to not take it too seriously- leave room for the fun and my personality to shine through!

Finally, tell us how we can support you and your business, and where we can find you!

We are still working through a global pandemic and healthcare burnout is at a level never seen before. If you or someone you know is a healthcare worker that is struggling I would love to help! My business is: This is Your Life Health & Wellness Coaching. You can connect with my blog (more coming soon!) and other resources

Thank you, Jessica!

I absolutely loved working with Jessica -  she's the epitome of someone who's found the work she's made to do in this world. The fact that she's found a way to do it with so much joy and compassion is proof that you can do work that makes the world a brighter place and lights you up at the same time!

Whether you want to create routines, habits and work kinder like Regina, build your business with compassion and your values at the centre like Jessica, or nurture your creativity and finish projects that are near to your heart like Jenny, One Woman Band is a wonderful place for you to take your dreams off the someday pile.

The investment for One Woman Band is £320, and most people like to pay in four equal monthly payments of £80.

If you want to figure out a more compassionate way to get shit done with like-valued women who truly get it, the next round of One Woman Band starts in September 2023.
