Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and Happy Monday, and welcome to a brand new week. And today we're just gonna get right in there. So for today's episode, I give you full, joyful permission to fuck up. Why? Because when we go about setting goals, challenges, or even a word of the year, they are exactly that, a challenge. If we could already do it in our sleep with our eyes closed, we would already be doing it. And so much of the time we all forget that these things are just hard. They challenge us to look at our old patterns, look at the habits we've formed, consciously or not, and just find new ways. But you can't just expect yourself to set a new habit or word of the year and be a champion by day two.
It just doesn't happen like that. When you do expect that, you just set yourself up for failure. Doing things differently takes courage. It takes courage to remember why it was important in the first place. It takes courage not to quit halfway through and revert to old ways. And it takes courage to want a better life for yourself and go out and get it. And doing things differently means you're always gonna fuck up at some point or another. We all do.
It's a human thing, not a sign of individual failure. It's a human thing, not a you thing. Whenever you start something new, there has to be room for wonkiness, for adjustment, and just to have the space to explore new ways of doing things without judgment. Because if there isn't, you're never going to get to where you want to go. I know that sounds harsh, but it's true. But if you can acknowledge from the get go that it's all a bit of an experiment and it's going to take trial and error, then you're in a much better place to begin with. It's a bit like being at the starting line with a pair of rocket boots. You might not be as close to your goals as you thought you might be or you wanted to be, and that's okay.
Sometimes it's about getting the wheels turning. It's about getting a bit less rusty and trying to steer. And once you've got the hang of that, it's about getting into the pedals. And then when you've got the hang of that, it's about getting the seat height right. So if you've done even one thing to get your wheels turning, then it's a success. And if you haven't, then you still have time. Because fucking up isn't code for giving up. Fucking up doesn't mean you don't have what it takes.
Fucking up doesn't mean that you're a failure. But what fucking up does mean is this. It means you're trying. It means you're giving it a go, no matter how scary it feels. It means you're human and you're experimenting. And it means you're daring to dream of a life that is more fulfilling and in alignment with who you are. So let's raise a glass, and it's a glass of hot chocolate for me to fucking up. Because fucking up takes real courage.
Because it means you're doing the thing. And that shit is scary. See you back here tomorrow for some more Rebel Rousing and have a fabulous start to your week.
