1342: One of my favourite pieces of old wisdom
Today I'm sharing an adage I adore, and three ways it can help us. I hope this episode finds you when you most need it!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So today on the daily prep, I wanted to dive into a piece of wisdom that is as old as time, but I think is pretty fucking relevant no matter what you're going through right now. And it's the old adage that you don't know what you don't know. And I love it for so many reasons. Number one, we can use it as a huge part of our self forgiveness journey in terms of that we did the best with what we had at the time, and we didn't know what we didn't know. Sometimes we give ourselves such a hard time because we couldn't predict the future. So in that way, I think that saying can be a huge dollop of compassion for us. Number two.
I think it can also be pretty helpful for us creatives and multi passionates in terms of we often dive head first into rabbit holes without quite knowing what we're getting into. And it can be a real strength because we bring our beginners mindset to everything. We don't know everything, so we get innovative and curious, and it can just lead to some exciting shit. Also, if we don't know what we don't know, there's a huge chance for novelty and lots of chances for unexpected delights. And I think a lot of us thrive on those things. And number three comes down to my love of imperfect action over perfect inaction. If we don't know what we don't know, then all the planning in the world probably isn't gonna tell us and we have to just start somewhere. And a bit like number two, it's the getting into the momentum and into movement.
That's where we find a lot of novelty, unexpected joys. And we can also have a lot of fun with trying different experiments and just seeing what works in a way like we were talking about in yesterday's episode. We can remove the outcome a little bit and focus more on the process. So my question for you today is this. In what way in your life right now is this idea of you don't know what you don't know Actually, really helpful, maybe a blessing in disguise, a bit of an opportunity, or maybe a chance for self forgiveness. We're not supposed to know everything. And as the other kind of adage goes, the more you think you know, you find the less that you do know. So let's make that work for us.
Let's use our creative, juicy, curious brains for some mental gymnastics that actually work for us rather than work against us. Happy thinking and I'll see you tomorrow.
