1341: Putting progress over perfection into action
If you ever feel like everything you do needs a tangible outcome, or you find it hard to make time for yourself, this one's for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. If you're new here, my name is Meg. I am a coach, I'm a writer, a podcaster, and all around rebel rouser. And this podcast is all about starting your day with a compassionate bang. And for those of you that listen to a lot of episodes in a row, it's designed to get you out of a rut and back into compassionate action. And that's why I wanna dive in with you today. So one of the things I really love to do but find it incredibly hard to make time for or allow myself to do is collaging. I actually think I enjoy the cutting out and the finding words and finding pictures than I do the actual sticking it down.
I find that bit of it stressful. And one of the things I've realized lately is that I partly find it hard to sit down and do it even though I love it because there's no tangible point to it. I don't necessarily sit down with a project in mind. I like the doing versus the outcome that's more important to me. And I know, like many of us around here, we're doers, we're fixers. And while we completely agree and align with the phrase progress over perfection, it can be a bit hard to live by. So lately, I've been asking myself a lot of big questions, and I decided that the way I was gonna explore it was through collage rather than journaling. I needed to see what images kind of I was naturally drawn to.
And I also needed to sit down with very little to no expectation. And a big one, I also had to give myself permission to use my magazine collection, which I absolutely love, and tell myself they're reserved for special projects. Now if you've been around here a while, you know I love my projects. I love my containers. And so the idea of sitting down with something really vague was intimidating. But my goodness, it's been so much fun. It's been a great source of active rest, and it's just been lovely to have some time to connect with myself. Now what's come out of it is really interesting and really helpful.
But for once, that doesn't feel like the most important thing. Just getting started with no real aim and allowing myself to use my best stuff has been a real treat. So you can use today's episode in any way you like. If there's been something that you've been wanting to do for a while, but you haven't got a tangible outcome to attach it to, maybe it's time to just start doing the thing gently. If you're facing some big questions and trying to figure them out, maybe it's about shifting cutting things out, maybe it's just about giving yourself permission to do that, and that being enough and a treat in and of itself. So here's to carving some time out for ourselves, even when that's really tricky to do logistically and when it's uncomfortable to do. And here's to knowing that it certainly isn't indulgent. Have a good one and I'll see you tomorrow.
