Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So it'd be yesterday's episode. I'm sharing a handy little tip for what to do when you're trying to focus and you're struggling to get things done. And for today's episode, we're focusing on the same struggle, but coming at it from a completely different angle, which is this. Sometimes when we are really, really trying to do something, the solution is to take a bit of a break or stop trying to do the thing for a while. Now that is gonna sound completely counterintuitive, And until you've tried it, it's probably gonna sound like complete bollocks, but it really works. Sometimes we put so much pressure on ourselves to do the thing that it is just not gonna happen because we're trying too damn hard. It's a bit like when you deliberately take some time off or you have a bit of a rest and suddenly you've got loads of new ideas and you're thinking, well, this is great, but where were these a week ago? And maybe it's even a bit annoying because you're trying to really not work, but your brain is having none of it.

So if you are struggling to start something or if there is something you really want to do and it is just not happening, Give yourself permission to not do the thing. Chances are, 1 of 2 things are gonna happen. Number one is that you actually have a decent rest and you come back way more refreshed with new perspectives and new ideas. Or number 2, when you stop trying, it becomes a whole lot easier because it doesn't feel so full on. And you feel less that you have the weight of the world on your shoulders. So if you're trying to do something or struggling to focus, And you feel like you've tried all the tricks in the book. Really give this one a go. It is completely unconventional, completely counterintuitive, But sometimes the very things that seem the most ridiculous are the ones that really fucking work.

And lastly, if you're listening to this, and you're under a deadline and you're thinking, I really can't afford to take a break. My dear, that is when you most need one. You can make it a really short micro break, but pushing through is not always the answer. And often arrest no matter how small can do the world of good. So here's to try new things. Here's to doing it differently, and here's to finding some unexpected joy today. I'll see you tomorrow.
