episode summary

Today I am sharing a conversation that I had with the brilliant Austin Kleon for the the 10 year anniversary of Steal Like an Artist. I cannot even begin to tell you how excited I am to share this conversation, how many sheer gold nuggets are in this episode, and how inspiring it is! (And also how fucking proud I am that I didn't cry and make a massive tit out of myself, which I'm usually prone to do, and I meet my idol!)

Today's guest is the one and only Austin Kleon. He describes himself as a writer who draws, and he is the New York Times bestselling author behind books such as Steal Like an Artist, Show Your Work and Keep Going. And all three of those books are books that I am continually recommending to the fabulous women I work with.

In this episode we chat about:

  • How to show up and get the work done

  • Owning your weirdness

  • Staying true to yourself no matter what

about austin kleon:

Austin describes himself as a writer who draws, and makes art with words and books with pictures. Austin Kleon is the New York Times bestselling author of a trilogy of illustrated books about creativity in the digital age: Steal Like An Artist, Show Your Work!, and Keep Going. He’s also the author of Newspaper Blackout, a collection of poems made by redacting the newspaper with a permanent marker. His books have been translated into dozens of languages and have sold over a million copies worldwide. He’s been featured on NPR’s Morning Edition, PBS Newshour, and in The New York Times and The Wall Street Journal. New York Magazine called his work “brilliant,” The Atlantic called him “positively one of the most interesting people on the Internet,” and The New Yorker said his poems “resurrect the newspaper when everybody else is declaring it dead.” In previous lives, he worked as a librarian, a web designer, and an advertising copywriter.
