Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So I am on a reading streak at the moment. It is fair to say over the past couple of years I've loved the idea of reading but really struggled to do it, Especially fiction. And I know for me that when I'm lost in a good book, there's nothing else quite like it that just lets my brain go on a bit of a holiday because I can't simultaneously worry about something else while conjuring up imaginary characters in my head. And right now I am 3/4 of the way through a book I fucking love. It is the best book I've read in a long time, and I've been on a pretty good roll with reading good books lately. And it's called That Bonesetter Woman by Frances Quinn. Now, the reason I'm sharing this, not only to recommend a really good read, is that I've noticed I get into a bit of a pattern when I'm really enjoying something, and I don't think I'm alone in this.

And I'm pretty sure about that because everything I share which I feel is really oddly specific that I can't explain, when I start to talk about it with people, I realise I'm not the only one and it is just a lovely feeling. So going back to my pattern, what I've realised is that when I'm really enjoying something, there's some kind of resistance that happens. Like right now, I love this book so much, it is absolutely gripping, but I almost don't want to go back to it because I know it'll be over and what if there isn't another really good book to come? And I think we can do this with a lot of things in life. Kind of like the same way that we might save our really good mugs for a special occasion, a really meaningful journal for our best ideas, or we're visiting a beautiful place and we can't quite stay in the moment because we know that the moment is fleeting and we don't know if we'll be back there again. So my message for both you and me today is this: there will be more good shit. And I think part of this is trusting ourselves that we'll find it, and trusting that it is out there in the first place. I think a lot of this comes from scarcity thinking, and we know our brains have a natural tendency to lean towards the negative, so I say let's get intentional about believing that good shit really is out there. There are books that you are gonna love, there are songs that you are gonna just get Totally enthralled by.

There are people that you've not met yet that are gonna light your world on fire. And you can also enjoy the things in the moment. I get to finish that really good book because I'm really enjoying it, and I trust that there will be more good books. You get to write in that journal because there will be more good ideas, I promise you. So for today, here's to remembering there is always more good shit. Here's to rebelling against scarcity thinking. And here's to giving ourselves the permission to dare to really enjoy things. I'm off to finish that book, and I hope you do whatever is the equivalent in your life.

Have a good one. I'll see you tomorrow, and remember, as always, that everything changes when you believe you matter.
