If you're being haunted by the never ending to-do-list or spirits of undone tasks, then today's episode is for you.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is the middle of the week, it is hump day, and I am here to persuade you to be a bit less hard on yourself because you already get so much shit done that you probably don't even recognize. Now, one of my favorite things to do is coaching, and one of my favorite moments in coaching sessions is when somebody realizes that actually they're further ahead or they've been doing more than they give themselves credit for. It's like we crack a window open and the light gets in, and you start to actually see all the ways that you have been showing up that your dream shitter just pretends don't count. Or persuades you just doesn't exist. And the reason why this is one of my favorite things is not only is it a huge confidence boost, it can provide a lot of forward momentum and energy when you realize that you are actually doing things and you're not starting from scratch. It also really starts to challenge that voice in your head that tells you you are never doing enough, and you can move ahead with more compassion rather than shame and guilt As to why things might feel so hard or why you might feel so tired. Because the truth is, if I got you to write down every single thing you've done this year, you would be floored.
And then if we added on top all of the things that you've had to deal with that you didn't think you'd have to deal with, it is fair to say you might actually think that you're Superwoman. And wonder how the hell you did it. But living in the day-to-day and just kind of, and reacting and doing things as they come up, very rarely do we stop to look at the bigger picture and realize that we are productive motherfuckers, that we do get shit done. And even if there are things that have been on our to-do list for over 6 months, that does not take away from the fact That you do shit. So as you're going about your day today, I want you to take a minute to consider the idea that actually you're doing better than you think you are, and you've done so much stuff. And the fact that there is still stuff left to do on the list is not a sign of personal failure. It is very much a sign of being human, living in a world with too much shit on our plates. Now, to be clear, I am not equating productivity and self-worth.
I truly believe that everything changes when you believe you matter, and you don't only matter when you're doing shit, you matter regardless. And because these things are pretty nuanced, A lot of the ways many of us derive value and we define success is whether we're doing the things that we want to and have to do, and the distance between who we want to be and who we are today. So I hope you take this episode as a reminder that you are doing so much better than you think you are, and that it is okay to use the brakes and take a pit stop. You do not have to be 100% all of the time, and as we know around here, our 100% is most people's 400%, because not only is it physically impossible, but it would also be damn unkind to yourself as well. If you've been listening to The Daily Pep for a while, you know that I tell it as it is, and I'm a firm believer in not blowing smoke up somebody's ass to make them feel better, Because it doesn't help anybody. So believe me when I say you are doing better than you think. You can afford to be a lot kinder to yourself, and if that feels too hard, be 20% kinder to yourself. And if you zoomed out to the big picture of everything you have done and are doing, I think you'd be bloody impressed.
Happy Hump Day. We are nearly halfway through the week, and I can't wait to see you bright and early as always tomorrow morning. Take care.
