Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. You're listening to The Daily Pep, which is all about getting out of your own way and creating the things only you can do and leaving the world a brighter place. Now, one of the things that I think it's fair to say all of us struggle with is getting distracted. It doesn't seem to matter often how laser-focused we start out, there is always something else vying for our attention. I think we tend to see procrastination and distraction as the enemy, and today I invite you to think about it a bit more compassionately. While there are so many planners, so many apps, so many strategies, so many life hacks, and so many books books all about how to beat procrastination, what we often forget is that some of the greatest ideas in the world came about when somebody went down a random rabbit hole. And if you think about it, that's exactly what ideas are. We've all had times where we're trying to concentrate on one task and we end up doing something entirely different and either have a breakthrough or we end up finding something fabulous that we probably wouldn't have found otherwise.
So today I really invite you to stop beating yourself up when you fall down a rabbit hole. We all get distracted, we all have times when we just can't focus, and that is okay. In fact, it may lead to some of your very best ideas and your very best work. So here's to not pressuring yourself to being productive 100% of the time, because nobody can. You are not a machine. And you are not superhuman. And here's to finding good distractions, hidden gems, and unexpected things down the rabbit hole. Tomorrow we're going to be diving a bit deeper into this idea of distraction and procrastination, and I'm going to be sharing a reminder that we all need.
But until then, have a good day. I can't wait to see you back here bright and early tomorrow morning, and I hope you treat yourself with plenty of compassion today. See you tomorrow.
