1707: It’s okay if you can’t see your story arc

Today's episode is a much needed reminder that not everything has to make sense.

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you and a very happy hump day. For today's dose of midweek rebel rising, I want to remind you that things don't always have to make sense, and you can do things or make decisions Based on the fact that it feels right for you, even if it makes less sense on paper, and if you're having a hard job explaining your decisions or what you want to do. Sometimes things feel off even if they make perfect sense on paper, and sometimes we will feel called to do something even when we can't figure out ourselves why. I know we all know this logically, but it can be a bit challenging to get it to seep into our bones. If we think about films that we watch and books that we see, we are so used to a linear story and to a really strong character arc. And although I know you know this, life is very different, and that doesn't mean we're doing anything wrong. Sometimes things feel a bit mundane, and in fact, I think we would quite welcome that right now. Sometimes it can be hard to make out the story, never mind the beginning, middle, and end.

And sometimes the things we want and the decisions we make only make sense after the fact, but that doesn't mean that we should trust them any less. It can be so easy, especially if we're socialized as women and we're socialized to be good girls, to approach every situation trying to figure out what is expected of us and what the right decision is. But the right decision is what makes sense to you. So dare to trust yourself, listen to the nudges, especially the ones that don't seem to make much sense, and remember that other people can have all of the opinions that they like on your life, but they are not the ones that wake up in your life and live your life every single day. You are your own very best source of knowledge, and it is better in the short term to disappoint somebody than in the long term to look back and really disappoint ourselves and wish we trusted our gut. So here's to listening to the nudges. Here's to doing the things that don't make sense. And here's to knowing that you do have a character arc, that you are part of a story, and it's okay if you can't see exactly what that is right now.

Have a fabulous Wednesday, and I'll see you tomorrow.
