960: A new way of thinking about FOMO

Today, courtesy of an Antwerp bakery, we’re diving into FOMO, and flipping it on it’s head!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So one of the things I've shared about before that I really struggle with It's FOMO and disappointment. And as we're traveling right now and I want to see everything, you can imagine that those 2 are really rearing their heads. But for today's episode, I really wanna dive into something that happened the other day. That was a great reminder of maybe not the joy of missing out, But something like it. So we were in Antwerp, and we've been recommended this really good bakery. We woke up. It looks and smells fucking amazing.

So I go in, I order. And as I went to pay, The card machine just was not accepting my type of card, and it didn't have any Euros on me. So no problem. I thought I'll just go find the ATM. I found 1 that wasn't working. Found a bank. It was closed. And I was already pretty short on time, so I just had to leave it. Now ordinarily, I'd have been a bit gutted. I was still a little bit gutted as well as hungry. But then I had a new thought, and I don't know about you, but I get quite excited When I think things I haven't thought before because as we all know, Our Dreams Should Air only plays from the same tape. And we can really get stuck into thought loops. But this time, I remember thinking that there is something magical there. And not in terms of it wasn't meant to be. Nothing like that. But this idea that there would forever exist this pastry that I could conjure up as the world's most delicious thing.

And it would stay that way in my head as this kind of mythical being Rather than being tainted by my perhaps too high expectations or rather than it sinking into being just Another thing that happened that I didn't really remember. And this idea of this mysterious magical pastry It's just much more enjoyable. Now you might think where I'm going with this is all about the joy of missing out Or being grateful for things that didn't happen so they can still be perfect in our head. And maybe there's 5% of that. But what I really want to share today is simply the reminder that we can choose new thoughts. We can build new pathways in our brains. And while it might be weird, uncomfortable, might not make much sense, we can forge new territory. So take this with you as you go about your day today. And if there is something that you've missed out on or you're feeling a bit gutted about, Feel free to borrow my thought. See if you can find some joy in the mystery. Have a good one, and I will see you bright and early tomorrow morning as always.
