          777: External validation vs positive feedback

          We all recognise the value of positive feedback, but as adults we hear it so rarely. So today's episode is just for you.

          Good morning daily peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. Now, before we dive into today's episode, I want to share with you something exciting that is happening next Monday, the 20th of March for two weeks. So I ran a group coaching program called One Woman Band. It is so much fun. We get so much shit done, and it is a fabulous community.

          One of the experiments that I loved that I started last year is having a completely free taste of fortnight, so two weeks of one warm band where you get to really come and see what it's like and try it on. Emphasize with absolutely no expectation or obligation to join the next. It's about seeing what it's like meeting some really fabulous people and two weeks of making significant progress on what you're working on.


          It's a mixture of group coaching calls, co-working sessions, and a huddle at the beginning of the week to set your intentions and a huddle at the end of the week to celebrate your goals and toot your horn. So one of the many things that I think absolutely sucks about being an adult is that we don't get a huge amount of positive feedback. Now, I know in the self-help world when we tend to talk about positive feedback, the conversation tends to turn to the problems of seeking external valid.

          And I wanna flip that on its head for a minute because yes, while we don't wanna live a life that is completely reliant on external feedback and what other people think, positive feedback and external feedback is still incredibly valuable. And it is especially valuable to those of us around here because we want to know that we are making a positive contribution to the world.

          We want to know we are making a difference. And because so much of the time we are swimming against a tide, it can actually be quite radical to feel validated, seen and heard. So today I just wanna tell you that you're doing a really good job. Yes, of course there are things that you haven't done. There are things that you're probably late on.

          There are things that you've been probably avoiding. I know that because that is definitely what I've been doing too. We are human. We are not. and the things that we haven't done do not diminish the efforts of what we have done. So if nobody has told you lately, I'm telling you this, you are making an impact in the world.

          The world is a brighter place for you being in it. And you right now, listening to this, you are enough. You don't need to become the idealised version of yourself who can suddenly do all these things because you already have so much to offer. All of this is to say keep being you, keep doing your thing and know that you are doing way, way better than you think you are.

                      767: I've got a confidence boosting challenge for you!

                      So often we only look at the start or end of the year to reflect on how much we've got done, so for today's episode I've got a bit of a quest for you!

                      Good morning daily peppers and a very happy Wednesday to you Now, I dunno about you, but it feels like we were ringing in the new year last week and time has flown. But the thing is, I know you have done so much already this year, we tend to take the end of the year and the start of a new year as a chance to really reflect on what we did do.


                      And I think it is fair to say that for some of us, we tend to use it as a way to beat ourselves up about what we didn't do. But the thing is, we have so many opportunities throughout the year to do that reflection in a way that feels way less. So for today's Daily pep, I really want you to think about all the things that you have done this year. Remember that the tiny things absolutely count, and often the things that really matter are intangible and they're probably not gonna show up on a to-do list, and that's why this work is so important. So if you're able to right now, or need to open the Notes app on your phone, grab a journal. Just see if you can get to 10 things that you have done this year.


                      Now for a second, we are putting aside all the things that you said you were gonna do and what you want to do, and we're focusing on what you have done. Because the problem with only using your plans for the year as a reference point is that often you end up completely ignoring the things that were unexpected and you only tell yourself half the. So see if you can come up with 10, and I've gone with the number 10 because it will feel hard, but often when it feels a bit more challenging, that's when we tend to dive deep. And you might just surprise yourself what all the things you have done, big or small, and you might find yourself feeling unexpectedly proud of all the things you have done this year.


                      So that is a bit of homework for you this hump day. I hope it gives you a massive confidence based and if you are struggling to come up with 10 things, see it as an exercise for the week. See what you can find. See what unexpected shit you've dealt with. Look back through your diary or your calendar, and you might just realize that you have done way more than you think you have, and you are so much further ahead than you previously thought you were.                                     746: Listen up if you're too dang hard on yourself

                                    We tend to be an unreliable narrator for ourselves. Today I'm offering up some helpful questions to get you curious about whether what you tell yourself is actually true.

                                    Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. Now one of the things we tend to be very good at around here is being really hard on ourselves. I know I've shared this before on the daily pep, but it's of my belief that we're not our own most reliable narrators. Because if we were to describe ourselves to other people in terms of our wins, the effort we put in, and how we show up, It would be wildly different to the reality. So today, I just wanna offer up some perspective shifts and just get you to look at things from a different, more compassionate angle. So here we go. Maybe you are doomscrolling, not because you are some awful person that lacks any sense of discipline, But because you're really fucking tired and your brain needs a break, and the companies behind a lot of the apps put in a lot of work to make it as appealing and also as addictive as possible. Maybe you're not as productive this week because you worked really fucking hard last week.


                                    You were in proper beast mode and you can't sustain that, and that's okay. Maybe you're not feeling that motivated because you just received some really bad or really sad news. And you're trying to process stuff. So it makes a lot of sense that you're not feeling your normal self and things feel really hard. Or maybe you're not seeing your wins because you have piled so much on your plate that is completely unrealistic to demand of yourself, and it is nigh on impossible to see what you have done. Now I want to be really clear here. The purpose of sharing this is not to give you more reasons beat yourself up. We all know that beating ourselves up about beating ourselves up is a vicious cycle, and we're just not going there.

                                    Instead, all I wanna do is pique your curiosity a bit and get you thinking, maybe I'm doing better than I think I am. Maybe it's okay I'm feeling how I'm feeling. And maybe it's time for more compassion and not for pushing yourself harder. So that's something that I want you to think about during the day today. As you naturally find yourself beating yourself up about things, just stop and see if you can question whether it's actually true and know that you are not alone in this. This is our brains trying to keep us safe, but you are way more competent. And you have way more to celebrate than your inner dream chitter would have you believe. You're doing alright.

                                    Your best is gonna look different every day, and your best is good enough. I'll see you tomorrow.
