746: Listen up if you're too dang hard on yourself
We tend to be an unreliable narrator for ourselves. Today I'm offering up some helpful questions to get you curious about whether what you tell yourself is actually true.

Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. Now one of the things we tend to be very good at around here is being really hard on ourselves. I know I've shared this before on the daily pep, but it's of my belief that we're not our own most reliable narrators. Because if we were to describe ourselves to other people in terms of our wins, the effort we put in, and how we show up, It would be wildly different to the reality. So today, I just wanna offer up some perspective shifts and just get you to look at things from a different, more compassionate angle. So here we go. Maybe you are doomscrolling, not because you are some awful person that lacks any sense of discipline, But because you're really fucking tired and your brain needs a break, and the companies behind a lot of the apps put in a lot of work to make it as appealing and also as addictive as possible. Maybe you're not as productive this week because you worked really fucking hard last week.
You were in proper beast mode and you can't sustain that, and that's okay. Maybe you're not feeling that motivated because you just received some really bad or really sad news. And you're trying to process stuff. So it makes a lot of sense that you're not feeling your normal self and things feel really hard. Or maybe you're not seeing your wins because you have piled so much on your plate that is completely unrealistic to demand of yourself, and it is nigh on impossible to see what you have done. Now I want to be really clear here. The purpose of sharing this is not to give you more reasons beat yourself up. We all know that beating ourselves up about beating ourselves up is a vicious cycle, and we're just not going there.
Instead, all I wanna do is pique your curiosity a bit and get you thinking, maybe I'm doing better than I think I am. Maybe it's okay I'm feeling how I'm feeling. And maybe it's time for more compassion and not for pushing yourself harder. So that's something that I want you to think about during the day today. As you naturally find yourself beating yourself up about things, just stop and see if you can question whether it's actually true and know that you are not alone in this. This is our brains trying to keep us safe, but you are way more competent. And you have way more to celebrate than your inner dream chitter would have you believe. You're doing alright.
