1184: F*ck lemonade!
We don’t always have to make lemonade from the lemons! Today we’re wrapping up the week with a hearty middle-finger to ‘good vibes only’.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Friday to you. Around here we tend to be hard working, we tend to be warm hearted and we try and make the best of every situation. And today I wanna remind you that sometimes it's okay if you're just not feeling it. It's okay if things are feeling a bit shitty, and it's okay if you don't have the best attitude. I think it is so easy for us to internalize this and set we're doing something wrong, But the reality is we can't be positive all the time. To expect that of yourself will not only be impossible, it would be totally unsustainable, and I don't think it'd be particularly healthy either. You are allowed to do your equivalent of stomping in the puddles.
You do not have to turn lemons into lemonade, and it is okay to have a good moan, and it is okay to throw yourself a pity party. I always find a timed pity party quite helpful and give myself a day of the week when I'm gonna go back to my normal activities. But I think it is really healthy and helpful to acknowledge how you feel. We internalize so many things and make them about our self worth when they're really not. How many things you ticked off your to do list this week has nothing to do with your success as a person. And it's always a helpful, not particularly happy reminder that sometimes the people that seem the most happy and successful on the outside are the ones that are feeling the least like that on the inside. So allow yourself to be grumpy. Stop comparing your problems with other people because it is not a game of top trumps.
And know that it is absolutely okay not to be good vibes only all the time. In fact, I, a 100% would not recommend it. And if you are feeling grumpy today, if you're just feeling off or if you're feeling shit, know that this is temporary. Ask yourself what you need. Try to honor it. Ask for help where you can. And if you've beaten yourself up, try not to beat yourself up about beating yourself up, which is a cycle I think many of us are familiar with. So, however you're ending the week, know that you've done enough.
But more importantly, you are enough. And as always, everything changes when you believe you matter. I'll see you on Monday.
