1560: Create your own chapters
Today we're taking back control of our own narratives and our own lives, and getting experimental about our current and next chapters!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So by now you've probably heard of that quote or saying that goes, do it for the plot. And I love that it can really encourage us to go try new things for the sake of it and just go and see what happens. But there are also so many other book metaphors that can make such a difference to our lives. And for me, one of them is thinking about chapters. And we've also heard the other saying that when one door closes, another door opens. And while that's true, there's this kind of air about it where, you know, life happens to us and reframing the things that happen to us. But I think with chapters, there's an opportunity here to really take back control a little bit and also have some fun.
Many of us are big readers around here and we will have read books with the most gigantic chapters that don't seem to end as well as the really micro punchy chapters. There are so many different ways to play with the same form and we get to decide what kind of chapter we're in. And we can decide when we open the chapter and when we close the chapter. So often we use external markers to really carve out the different chapters of our lives. But what if we had our own internal bookmarks? Because there is nothing to say that you can't start a brand new chapter today exactly as you are, no fixing required, and maybe a bit more experimental than the last one. The status quo would say that starting things happens at the start of new year, on your birthday, at the start of a new month, or the start of a new week. And I say fuck that. You can start your new chapter anytime you like.
It can be as long as you like, as short as you like. It only has to work for you. There will definitely be an element of mystery as to what happens in the story, because there always is. But there are some things that you can define and you can choose for yourself. So here's to a new chapter. Here's to really fucking enjoying the one that you're in. Here's to bringing your current chapter to an abrupt halt if you need one. And here's to remembering that you know you best. Have a good one and I'll see you tomorrow.
