687: Embrace the non-sparkly bits
This Hump Day, we're embracing the boring bits!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So it's the middle of the week, it is hump day, and today I want to pop in with the reminder that you do not have to optimize every minute of every day, even though all the signs and the world might be telling you otherwise. The reality is some days are going to be super sunny days and some days are going to be rainy days and thunderstorms. And to keep going with the kind of weather analogy, some days are going to be gray and just completely unremarkable. And that is okay. I think whether we're looking at films or TV shows, it's so easy to think that something exciting should be happening every minute of the day or we should always be busy. But the reality is that is not sustainable for anybody. And that is a surefire way to really burn yourself out.
And I know around here a lot of us are pretty exhausted and a lot of us tend to know what burnout feels like, and it is not a place that we enjoy being in. And on the subject of TV and film shows etc, and please bear with me on this one, I always have to remind myself that they come with epic soundtracks. So no matter what's going on, you've got kind of music to go along with it. And the high highs are really high, the low lows are really low, and life always feels interesting and exciting and you don't see the boring bits. And the reality is, our lives do have boring bits. And that's not you or me doing anything wrong. It is just the fact that some bits of life aren't all that interesting. That's okay.
And until we can have a running soundtrack with our lives, which I for one would love, we need to give ourselves some grace and learn to be okay with the boring bits too. So whatever kind of metaphorical weather situation you've got going on right now, if you are having an unremarkable day, know that that is something everybody has. And just remember that you don't have to feel every second of your day. You do not have to be super productive all the time. Things can't and won't feel exciting all the time. And that is okay too. So here's to embracing our soundtrackless lives. And rather than seeing that as a bad thing, seeing those quiet moments as really important, trying to bring bits and sparkles of joy to the boring moments, and knowing that you, my dear, are doing nothing wrong, you are doing fabulously, you are not a problem to be fixed, and just keep going. And as always remember that everything changes when you believe you matter. I'll see you tomorrow.
