859: Alternative (and less boring!) ways to measure success

It is so easy to define our success and self-worth based on how much we do or don't get done. Today I'm picking that apart and sharing some alternative, and much more fun ways to define success instead!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So here on the Daily Peppers, week, we've been talking about how we can take the pressure off and how we can put ourselves into maintenance mode when that's really only what we have capacity for. And what we've really been doing this week is we've been really separating our self worth from our productivity. And today, I wanna share some different ways of measuring your success on a weekly basis. So we usually get to Friday, and we judge how well the week did or didn't go. by how many things we cross off our to do list. And I don't think that really works on a couple of levels.

Number 1, it depends on what kind of to do list you write, and whether you actually keep track of all the different tasks that turn into many different tasks, and you have a way of really capturing the extra stuff you did.

Number 2 is because it doesn't capture the intangible stuff, which often is where we spend a lot of our energy during the week, And those tend to be on things that are never gonna show up on somebody's priority list, but they really matter. And number 3, it doesn't work because is not the only way to measure success. Also, we can have so much more fun with this. Imagine deciding whether the week is a success based on how much fun you had or how many times you laughed. It could be based on what you learned, what connections you made, how many times you stood up for yourself? or how many times you kept going when it was a lot easier just to give up? Because here's the thing, on a day to day level, Our to dos really do matter. But when we start to zoom out a bit and you look back at this year, you're not gonna think about every single item on your to do list. Instead, you're gonna think of the memories. You're gonna think of the things that really matter. And while our to do list do matter, They don't matter as much as some other things. So I want you to take this as inspiration for your next week, and think about your next Friday self. and how you would like to define success then. The boring part about being an adult is that there is so much tedious shit today. But the fun part of it is that we get to reinvent the rules. We get to choose what success looks like to us. and live a life according to our own values.

So that's it for the Daily Pep this week. I can't wait to back with you on Monday in your ears, or Sunday in your inbox for my regular weekly letters are rebellion, where I share the really vulnerable bits I don't share anywhere else. About what it looks like for me to build a life I love, especially as I prepare for long term travel. And I'm sharing a lot of the lessons I learned the hard way. In the hopes that I save you some stress and heartbreak along the way, you can get them by going to therebelrousers.com/letters. And I would be honored to have you on the journey with me. Take care of yourself. Do something for you this weekend. and remember that everything changes when you believe you matter.
