067: When life gives you lemons, you don't have to make lemonade.

We’ve all heard the sayings about life giving you lemons, but it’s not actually that helpful when you’re in the middle of it. Because maybe you didn’t want lemonade. Today I'm offering up a much more helpful alternative.

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Thursday to you. I have woken up in a very sassy Meg mood, and today, I've got a bit of a anti pep talk for you. If you're listening for the first time, this is the daily pep, and it's about having a daily dose of inspiration, encouragement, and verbalizing to live life on your terms. So we have all heard the saying about life giving you lemons. People say it when they want to be helpful when life isn't going according plan or maybe life's a bit shitty. But actually, it is not that helpful when you're in the middle of it because maybe You didn't want the fucking lemonade. And here's the thing. In this personal development world and this self help world, There is so much pressure to take every shitty moment as a learning moment or turn every crappy thing into something positive or something to feel grateful for.

And while there are times that that can be really helpful, sometimes it is just the last thing you wanna hear. And actually, pretending everything is unicorns farting rainbows isn't very helpful. It can be dangerous when it comes to suppressing things. and it is perfectly natural and perfectly healthy to not feel great about things and not to always have positive vibes only, and I hope you can see the air quotes. So for today's anti pep talk, I just want to remind you that it's okay to be grumpy, You do not have to feel grateful every minute of the day. It is okay for life to give you lemons, and for you to say fuck off, I do not want lemonade. It is okay to be pissed off, and most importantly of all, it's okay to feel whatever you're feeling. Now I should just say this isn't about waiting around in the ship for the fun of it.

It is about just not having the pressure to feel great all the time. Nobody can feel great all the time, no matter what people are showing on Instagram. Or no matter how many slogans there are, about too blessed to be stressed or positive vibes only. You will come out of it, but maybe for now, you just need to feel shitty. So if you take one thing away from today's pep talk, it's that you don't have to always make lemonade. So take the pressure off yourself, and you don't have to immediately turn something that's damn right shitty, into a big life lesson. Life doesn't work like that. I know that and you know that.

Have a great Thursday. I can't wait to see you back here tomorrow. And remember, everything changes when you believe you matter.
