1092: An unconventional take on blooming

A lot of the time we associate blooming with things looking good on the outside, but today we’re diving into the more subtle side of what it means to bloom (and how to recognise it).

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So for yesterday's episode, I left on the quote that I love that I've shared quite a few times around here about how nothing in nature blooms all year long, so don't expect yourself to either. So for today's episode, I want to dig a bit deeper into that, specifically the part about what it means to bloom. It is so easy to think that the times in our life when we're blooming is when things are looking really good on the outside or we're going through some big change that is visible to everyone. But that's not necessarily the case. A lot of the changes and a lot of the blooming that we do is very internal, and it's also very slow, and that is part of the process. You're not doing anything wrong. But I think if we think of blooming only in the case of when the flower becomes bright and is at its most beautiful, what we can do is ignore some of the biggest transformations that actually happen along the way.

I'm a huge fan of celebrating what I call your intangible wins, because they are often some of the most important wins that we have. And intangible wins are the things that are never going to appear on your to do list and can be things like setting boundaries, your ability to deal with the situation and have hard conversations, that kind of thing. And I don't think any of us give ourselves enough credit for those intangible wins, nor do we often recognize them. So I just want to invite you today to think about what the different stages of blooming are for you and what it means to bloom in different areas of your life. Because that is going to look different for each of us. There is no right way of doing it. Some things take longer to bloom than others. Some things bloom more loudly, some things bloom more quietly.

But I bet if you looked for it, you could find an area in your life where you're blooming right now. Because we do not have one singular flower, we are made up of many, many different flowers and many different facets of our life. We are continual works in progress, and there is always something to celebrate. So here's to your intangible wins, here's to your many blooming flowers, and here's to remembering that everything changes when you believe you matter.
