Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Wednesday to you. So, one of the things I absolutely love is a really good maker's market. I love going around the stalls and I especially love a really good mug. Now, there is something I love about handmade ceramics. I absolutely love being able to see the fingerprint marks that were accidentally left in. I love the irregularity, and I fucking love the imperfections. I love a bit of wonkiness and I will actively seek out the one that is a bit more imperfect.

Now the reason I'm sharing this today is not only to enable you to buy even more beautiful mugs but as a reminder to all of us recovering perfectionists that alongside the fact that perfection doesn't exist many people actually seek out imperfection. It shows a humanness, it shows a vulnerability, it shows a certain sense of courage and I think living a life that is filled with imperfections can come with a lot of satisfaction that we miss out when we're trying to make things so damn perfect all the time. If you've spent time around fellow creatives, you'll know only too well the pattern of somebody showing what they've done and then immediately pointing out all the faults in it. And often, we're just staring at it like, I would never have noticed what you're pointing out if you didn't point it out to me. Or really? You think that's a big deal? Like, I think it's fucking awesome. So remember that your imperfections are massively exaggerated to you. Your imperfections may help you make some really genuine honest heartfelt connections And, also, no matter how hard you try, we're never gonna reach a point where our project or our life is perfect. So we may as well reclaim some of that time and energy back for ourselves.

Perfect doesn't exist, and if it did, our dream shitter would still find a way to beat ourselves up about it. Know that winning the game is opting out to be in part of the game. Know that your imperfections are gloriously, wonderfully you. And chances are, you are criticizing yourself a 1000000 times harder than anybody else, and also, it may be a case that nobody is criticizing you at all. So, have a good one, let this free you a bit today, and I'll see you tomorrow.
