Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So I wanted to pop in today with a reminder that I think so many of us need to hear, yet very few of us rarely believe in our heart of hearts if we're gonna get really cheesy to be true. And that is this idea that you are doing your best and you're doing alright. Now for so many of us when we hear that, all we can think of is the things that we haven't done, the things that we could do better, and all the ways that things are going to shit. And that is a totally human reaction. A bit like we were talking about yesterday, our brains are hardwired to find the risks and to see the negative, So it's no wonder that all of those things come up. Also, let's face it. Being a human and all the things that that involves is quite a lot.

At any one point, we probably have life admin that we need to be focusing on. We have people that we need to reply to, and we have a running list of things that we don't wanna forget, which chances are we might forget some of them because we are only human, and our brains can only hold so much stuff. And the amount of information that we take in and have to handle on a daily basis is new to all of us. Never before have our ancestors had to deal with so much information and just stuff. So if we take our personal expectation bar down slightly and realize that we're human and there are probably always gonna be things that we need to do. And there will be things that we naturally forget. And at some point, we are gonna drop one of our plates or multiple of our plates. And instead, we look at what we have done and what we do have on our plate, then we might see ourselves through a slightly kinder lens.

If you were describing everything you've got going on right now to a friend, chances are their response would be a combination of fucking hell, maybe not a sweary perhaps, and some reassurance about look how well you're doing with everything you've got going on. As I've been thinking about spinning our plates, I've got to thinking that, actually, I want a big, bold, beautiful life that feels authentic to me and that aligns with my values. And I don't wanna be the world's best plate spinner because if I am, that is where all my energy goes. And I would miss out on so much cool shit and doing so many creative projects and so many experiences. And I'm actually okay with being an adequate plate spinner. And just saying that feels like quite a lot of relief. And as you're listening, you might be feeling that, actually, you're okay with being an adequate plate spinner too. So as you go about your day to day, have a think about where you're trying to be the world's best plate spinner and where you can just be human.

When it comes to trying your best, your best will look different every day. And also, there are some tasks that don't need to have you at a % capacity because they really don't matter that much. And you doing your best is figuring out how much attention and focus you wanna give it and only giving it that much so you can spend your energy, time, and focus on where you really want to. So here's to getting a bit more okay with dropping the plates, with knowing that some of them bounce and that some of them never needed to be there in the first place. And here's to living a fabulous, wholehearted life and not just attempting to be the world's best plate spinner, because that would be pretty fucking boring. Have a good one, and I'll see you tomorrow.
