Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So today, I wanna continue down a rabbit hole of something I've been exploring lately, and that is this idea of following our needs, our wants, and our desires, and treating them like they're actually valid things. And today, I really wanna focus on our needs. I think so many of us grow up with the conditioning that we are only allowed to need the same things other people need, Or our needs come after everybody else's needs have been fulfilled, and they're a bit of a bonus. Now around here, we tend to be creative, multi passionate, highly sensitive, empaths. We might have to work really hard to maintain our mental health. We might have chronic illnesses, and we might be neurospicy. So whether you identify with one of them, all of them, somewhere in between, it makes total sense that in a lot of areas of life, we have different priorities and needs.
I really love that quote about if it costs you your mental health, it's too expensive, or it's not an option in the first place. And as I think about this, I'm just thinking about what ways do we make ourselves fit into a mould that is actually either too expensive or not a valid option? And what needs do we have that maybe we don't say out loud and maybe you feel like it's just a quirk you've got that you have to deal with? So I'm raising these things today to remind you that your needs are valid, to invite you to think about what is actually a nonnegotiable for you and really important. And those things don't have to make sense to anybody else but you. You know you best. And it does suck that it usually comes down to the burden of the individual to figure out all these solutions for ourselves while we're also going through shit. So give yourself credit and grace for all the ways that you've adapted already. And know that a lot of this work isn't a luxury, but very much a necessity. However you walk through this world, you deserve joy, you deserve ease, and you get to build a life that you love.
So keep being on your own team. Know that this takes a huge act of courage, usually on a daily basis, and ask for help where you can. You are a fabulous human being. The world is such a brighter place for you being in it. And if nobody has told you this lately, my dear, everything changes when you believe you matter and you fucking matter.
