1334: The gift of unexpected joy
If you’re quick to lift up friends but slow to treat yourself with the same care, this episode is your reminder to soak up a little of your own wonderful energy this weekend!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. It is the end of the week, and I wanna end the week with a question, which is a really nice one to think about. And it is this. If you were gonna do something lovely for your friend right now, what would you do? So we're not necessarily thinking huge grand gestures. It doesn't have to involve a huge amount of money or any money in general. But if you were gonna do something to remind them that they matter to you and they're important to you and to just bring a bit of unexpected joy to their life today, what would you do? And the reason I'm asking this is twofold. First, I don't know about you, but I think we could all do with a bit of kindness and faith restored in humanity. So if you're able to do it, do that or the minimum viable version of that for a dear friend or loved one this weekend.
But not before you've done the second one, which I'm sure many of you saw coming, which is if we replace your friend with yourself, what would it look like to give that gift to yourself? And would you need to change what you did? Kindness is such a value to so many of us around here, And we give that out in bucketfuls to our friends and loved ones. But many a time, it is the people that give that love and support so freely to other people that struggle the most to give it to themselves. And I share that not in terms of a problem that needs to be fixed but something just to keep in the back of our minds or maybe this weekend at the front of our minds. So here's to gift giving. Here's to restoring our own faith in humanity, and here's to knowing that many times the biggest gift we can give to other people and also to ourselves is the gift of being witnessed and the gift of being seen, heard, and valued. I hope you do something deliciously wonderful for yourself this weekend. And here's to using your fabulous kind heart for yourself as well. I'll see you on Monday.
