1367: You matter (even when it’s inconvenient)
Today's episode is a bit silly, but it's pretty damn powerful!
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Wednesday to you and a very happy hump day. So I've got a bit of a silly one for you today and one I'm hoping gives you a couple of ahas. So a couple of minutes ago I was sitting here ready to press play, I've got my headphones on, the microphone is all plugged in, I'm nice and comfy and ready to go. And I realized that I really need a wee. Not desperate, but the need is definitely there. And my automatic thought was, cool, okay, I'll just do this, then I'll take care of that. Because I'm all set up and ready to go and it'd just be really inconvenient to stop right now. And then I realized that is not a very helpful message to send myself.
Especially as I'm starting to realise in my own life that one of my biggest fears and one of my biggest self protective patterns is I feel like I'm an inconvenience. I tend to place small, I tend to put other people's needs in front of my own and I just don't want to inconvenience anybody. And so in that very little moment, I realized that I had a choice. I could either push through against what my body was saying and not be an inconvenience to myself and get it done and wait to have a wee till after, or I could just listen to myself, listen to my body and get up and have a fucking wee. And the reason I'm sharing this today is that so many of us are taught to override our own needs. I know I'm not the only one that worries about being inconvenient. I worry about getting in the way. And I'm kind of sick of treating my body like it is an inconvenience as well.
We are humans, we have needs. And if you've been here for more than about three episodes, you'll know that I am very big on this idea that everything changes when you believe you matter. And I think one of the ways that we can show ourselves we matter is by listening to those needs when we hear them. Even if it is as silly as listening to your body the first time you need a wee rather than holding on for a more convenient time and only going when you're desperate. This can apply to so many other things in your life, but for now let's just start with the weeing. I told you it was going to be a silly one. I hope it's been helpful and I'll See you tomorrow.
