1405: Perfectionism meets Summer funk
Sometimes we can put all the pressure on Summer to meet all of our needs and tick all of the boxes. If you're coming to the end of the season feeling a bit disappointed, this one's for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Monday to you. It is so lovely to be back after taking a couple of weeks break while we return to long term travel. It has been a whirlwind couple of weeks and I am now recording this in my Airbnb in Strasbourg, France. Now, the summer is a bit of a weird one, isn't it? I think we can have all these plans and plan to take a bit of a break and have a bit of a rest and sometimes we kind of end it exhausted. I know that I wish I was coming back with so much more energy. I had so many grand plans for how I was gonna decompress and recharge. But it's just been a season of a lot of things going on. So for today's episode, I thought I would share with us all a reminder that it's okay if we don't feel balanced or we don't feel as rested as we wanted to, or things didn't turn out the way we wanted them to.
I think each new season brings so many possibilities as well as challenges and also pressure to make the most out of the season and make it the best one ever. And it's okay if it's not. For many of us, we are perfectionists and we are overachievers and we can apply that to our downtime as well. I know I certainly can. And I can tend to be pretty hard on myself if I haven't maximized or used my rest time as best as I would like. But sometimes, a bit like I said earlier, we just need to decompress and realize that not everything at every point has to be the most optimal and efficient thing it can be. So in the Northern Hemisphere, I wonder, as we're approaching summer, what would happen if we measured it by the unexpected joy that we had as opposed to the things that we did and the things we had every best intention to do but didn't get around to. What if you took a moment to log the things that made you smile, the things that made you feel calm, and the things that made you laugh, rather than the things that you can see on paper.
And if you're coming back from the summer with your cup half full, remember that not everything needs to be done right now. It will take you a minute to catch up. There are still many things to look forward to and you are so much further ahead than you think you are. So happy Monday, my loves. It is a joy to be back and I'll see you tomorrow.
