1415: Celebrating our multipassionate selves
Today we're doing something a bit different, and we're celebrating our multipassionate selves and national ampersand day!
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Monday to you and also a very happy international Ampersand day to you. Now if it is way too early in the morning or you're just less of a nerd than I am, then an ampersand is that fun, squiggly symbol that represents the word and or it can sometimes be used instead of the plus symbol. Now the reason why this is relevant today is I thought it was a great way to start off the day celebrating our multi passionate selves. Because around here we are not just one thing. We contain so many multitudes, we, we wear so many hats. And in a world that tends to put specialists on a pedestal, it can be so hard to remember that there are so many fabulous things about being a generalist or a multi passionate, a multi potentialite, a renaissance person and a polymath. The way I see it, life is way too short to just be one thing. And there are also so many, many different things to dive into and get curious about.
And for many of us, we are simply lifelong learners and we are interested in so many things and we have seasons of going down different rabbit holes and I think that is one hell of a superpower. It makes us great at problem solving, it gives our lives so much meaning. And it also means that we don't have to choose one thing and we can build our lives and our world around the things that matter to us most. Sometimes it does mean that our lives don't follow a linear path that on paper our lives look pretty chaotic and hard to explain and we can't really be put in a box. But around here, I think we're all firmly in the fuck the box brigade. Anyway, so here's to celebrating your multi passionate nature today. To knowing that you never have to just be one thing. And remembering that there are always more things to explore.
Even though our inner dream shitter and perhaps our external dream shitters can give us a hard time about being flaky or going through phases, I honestly believe it is one of our greatest strengths. For me, it shows a passion for life, a curiosity that will send us a long way, and a true gift in the unique ways we see the world. So happy Ampersand day and here's to, in the words of Barbara Sher, refusing to choose, I'll see you tomorrow.
