1412: Let’s go down the rabbit holes

Today’s episode is a permission slip to reclaim your time, and focus on curiosity, not optimisation.

Episode transcript:

Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Wednesday and a very happy hump day to you. Now, if you've been around the past week or so, you'll know that I'm right in the middle of launching the final ever round of One Woman Bang Club. As it is very much on my mind today, I thought I'd share with you what we do in one One Band club on a Wednesday and a couple of takeaways that you can apply to your own life. So on Wednesday we do deep dive co working. It is an opportunity to really take a decent chunk of time and work on something that we've been wanting to work on for a while. To really get into the nitty gritty of something and maybe fall down a rabbit hole or two. And the thing is, this can feel radical, maybe luxurious, and even a huge privilege in modern life. We all have so much stuff to do.

Our to do lists don't really end. And if your inner dream shitter is anything like mine, you are always aware of what you haven't done, especially when you try to do something for you. But here's what I also know. I also know that there are some pockets of time during the week that if I did want to use them to go down a rabbit hole, I could. But usually I end up just picking up my phone, scrolling, coming back out and wondering where time has gone. Now please know I am not judging myself or you for this. Sometimes our brain just needs a bit of a holiday and we need a bit of decompression time and our phones can be fabulous at that. But I do think there is some time that we can steal back.

I also want to acknowledge that this isn't going to be the case for everybody. We've all got wildly different lives, wildly different circumstances, and for many, many different reasons. This is going to be more of a possibility to some than it is for others. So I think we might have to be a bit creative with this. And I know that that can suck because for many of us, we're sick of having to come up with innovative, creative solutions for so many things. But even if you do it in the tiniest slithers of time, I want to remind you that going down rabbit holes is worth it around here. We are lifelong learners. We have an insatiable sense of curiosity about the world and you get to feed that.

You get to take yourself out of your life for a little bit and you get to do things just because sometimes you do need that big chunk of time to work through something or to really make progress on something that's been sat there for a while. And I really want to encourage you to ask for help with carving out that time because it really matters and you matter so much of the time. Especially for those of us socialized as women, if we're saving time in one particular area, we automatically try to optimise and maximize that time and replace it with something else. And I just want to remind you that you are also able to take that time to fill your cup, especially if it feels uncomfortable. And I have definitely learned the hard way that often the time we most need to take a break is the time we feel less able to. So here's to filling our cups, here's to rabbit holes, and here's to stealing back our time for ourselves. And finally, a quick, friendly reminder that if you're planning on joining one woman band, now really is the time. We get started tomorrow.

I am so excited and I'd love to see you there if it feels right for you. Have a fabulous hump day and I'll see you tomorrow.
