Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So it is that time of the year where the nights are starting to draw in and I know for a lot of us around here, let's just say we're not a fan, but something we do like is having something to really sink our teeth into. And this time of the year can be a really good time for hobbies. So today's daily prep is all about reminding you of different things you might have or different things you've looked into that might be really good for this time of the year. If you're listening to this, chances are you are multi passionate and like many of us, you have got into many things over the years. And chances are you carry some shame and guilt around past projects that you didn't do or you didn't finish. Well, first of all, you're not alone. We all have them and it is a sign that you are a creative and a curious person.

And maybe now is the time to give back to some of them if you want to. But now might also be a good chance to say fuck it and really lean into what you fancy doing. Now, I am 95% sure I've got ADHD and I really struggle with object permanence in that once it's out of mind, it's out of sight. For example, at some point last year I got really into hand embroidery. I put it in a drawer and I literally didn't think about it again for about nine months until I stumbled upon it and remembered, oh yeah, that was something that I really enjoyed. And I'm sharing this in case you're similar. And because I've got a homework challenge for both of us this weekend and it's a fun one, I want you to take stock and have an audit of different fun shit that you've already got that maybe you've forgotten about. Maybe it is a course, maybe it is a kit.

Maybe there are some books on your shelf that you've been wanting to read for years. Chances are you already have some epic stuff. When it comes to hobbies and it comes to things to do and we're taking away any weird feelings about whether we've forgotten they exist and let's just return to them and look at them and see how they feel. If nothing is speaking to you, maybe it's time to declutter and maybe it's about seeing the serendipity that can happen on your local buy nothing group. All of this is to say, go wild and go with what you feel. Many of us carry with us some guilt on around something we thought we'd get really into. Maybe we bought a whole bunch of stuff and we didn't touch it. And that's okay.

It is not the time of the year to make yourself feel worse about that. This time of the year can be hard enough as it is, so let's not add that to the mix. So here's to taking an audit of your creative hobbies. Here's to finding some new ones, rediscovering old ones. And here's to a season of doing things for joy's sake and intentionally adding more brightness to our lives. I hope you find some unexpected joy this weekend, and I can't wait to be back with you in your inbox on Sunday or in your fabulous ear holes on Monday. See you then.
