1447: It's okay to not know
If you're in the middle of making a decision, or you've come to the end of something and don't know where to go next, today's pep talk is for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. And a very happy hump day to you. So today I thought I would pop into your lugholes to remind you that it's okay if you don't know the answer. I'm not saying it's comfortable, I'm not saying it's pleasant, and I know I fucking hate being there myself, but it is okay. In fact, I think it takes a lot of courage to sit with not knowing. Some decisions are just really hard sometimes. For example, at the end of a project we don't know what's going to come next. And sometimes it feels like the easiest thing to do would be to make a decision, any decision, so you don't have to spend time in that dreaded messy middle.
But I can definitely speak for myself when I say there have been many times in my life that I have made a decision simply to get myself out of that stuck, uncomfortable place. And those decisions have usually been made from a place of fear rather than a place of hope. And if we're going to pick one of the two, I would recommend making decisions from a place of hope or a place of curiosity. And with all of this, I think so much of it comes back to self trust. Trusting that we will figure out the path for us, that we've got ourselves out of a lot of sticky situations before now, and that something fabulous might be around the corner that we never could have imagined. So if you are in a place right now where you're not sure what's next or you're making a decision and you don't know what to do, while it's not a fun place to be, you are standing in your integrity, you're standing in your courage. And this is temporary. I found many times in my life that courage feels the least thing like courage at the time.
But when I look back I have a very different perspective and I think, who is that brave motherfucker? Remember, there is very, very rarely one right path. There are very many things in life that you can undo and that you may have a lot more power than you think you do. So here's to hope based decisions, not fear based decisions. And here's to you have a good one and I'll see you tomorrow.
