1473: If you’d told me this three years ago…

If you’ve got something coming up that feels insurmountable, then today on The Daily Pep! I’m sharing a story from my own life that I think might help.

Episode transcript:

Good morning Daily peppers and a very happy Thursday to you. So if you have been a long time listener of the Daily pep, you will recall that I shared about my experiences of learning to drive, taking my driving test, I and passing and subsequently driving all over Europe. Well, I'm bringing that up today because it's just gone three years since I passed. And if you were around at the time I was doing it, you'll remember how shit scared I was, how much I struggled with the fear and the anxiety and just how big a deal it was for me. And the point of sharing this is to remind you that what feels absolutely impossible right now and what feels like the biggest deal, it will someday be a distant memory. You will get through it and you might wake up three years later amazed at the fact that it just isn't a big deal anymore. Now, I'm really aware that this doesn't apply to everything in life.

And some situations are just way too complicated and downright shitty. So I want to leave room here for the nuance and the things that don't necessarily fit into this category. But there are a lot of areas of life where this does apply. If you'd have told me three years ago that I would fucking love driving, that I would absolutely thrive on the Autobahn with no speed limit and I had zero points on my license, I never, ever, ever would have believed you. But that did not change the outcome. I also don't necessarily think we have to go as far down the line as our future selves in three years time. Because, for example, with my driving, I don't think I would have believed her. And I needed the faith that the next week Meg had, not the three years time Meg had.

This is my long winded way of saying that you can do way more than you think you can. You are way more capable than you think you are. And also a loving reminder that courage rarely feels like courage in the moment. It feels a lot like being scared shitless. But in hindsight, we impress ourselves. So keep going, prepare to be surprised and know that you've got this. I'll see you tomorrow.
