Episode transcript:

Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Thursday to you. Today, I am popping into your speakers in your earbuds wherever you listen with a dose of compassion and a reminder that I think we all need. Now we talk a lot around here about the expectations we put on ourselves and how likely we would never put those expectations on anybody else. Now one of the biggest expectations I think we all put on ourselves is to be on top form all of the time. We want our best to be magnificent every day, but the reality is, and we know this intellectually, that it's just not going to. So today, I just wanna give you the compassionate reminder that nobody is on top form all of the time. I think we get so used to looking outside of ourselves and seeing what other people are doing, and we forget all the hard work that goes into it or the bits that we don't see. If you think of a TED Talk, you only see the final product.

You don't see the hours and hours and the months months of preparation that go into it and all the practicing. But just because they make it look so natural doesn't mean it comes natural to them. And we can look at athletes in the same way. What we often don't look at is all of the early mornings, the many, many 1000 hours, and often all the blood, sweat, and tears that goes into it along the way. But not only that, we also don't see how rest factors into the equation. Now I can't claim to know much about sport at all, but what I do know is that people rest before they play. And going back to the TED talk example, you would probably try and carve in some time for rest and relaxation beforehand rather than just jumping straight into it after an exhausting couple of weeks. All of this is to say that, a, you can't be on your best form all of the time.

That is not humanly possible. And b, rest is just as important as showing up and and to expect yourself to be on top form all of the time is not only unrealistic, it's a pretty cruel expectation to put on yourself. So here's to treating yourself with more compassion. Here's to knowing that rest is not optional, and here's to showing up for our best days, the not so good days, and everything in between. You are doing so much better than you think, and you are so much further along than you recognize. Take this with you into your day today, and I can't wait to be back with you tomorrow morning as always. See you then.
