1517: F*ck it, let's choose ourselves
For today's episode we're getting honest about all the sh*t we have to do, and reclaiming some of our own time and energy for ourselves.
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Wednesday to you. Now, sometimes life just feels like one huge big fuck off size to do list. There is just so much shit that we need to get done. There are so many balls in the air, we are juggling so many plates and it can feel even more infuriating because the minute we've kind of dealt with one plate or one ball, it's like something magically and immediately grows back in its place. Now let's be honest, this is shitty on quite a few levels. One of the reasons it's quite shitty is because some people are great at making it look like it's all effortless. And we end up yet again thinking we're doing something wrong, which we're not. Also, the things that we actually want to do never make it anywhere near the top of our list.
And then we wonder why everything feels so frustrating and unsatisfying. And the third reason it's so shit. Well, there are many, many reasons, but we're just going to keep to three today is it's so fucking annoying. Yes, it's also really exhausting and also really unfair. I don't want to dismiss those things, but it's also just so fucking frustrating and it can make us so pissy and so angry. So for today's hump day, I say that we harness some of that frustration with a big hearty fuck it. And we admit that we're not going to get everything done and unless we choose ourselves, nobody else is going to. So fuck it.
Where can you actually do something you want to do? Now this isn't about kind of chucking every single commitment out of the window because for most of us we can't. But we also underestimate what a couple of no's can do and what some good hearty fuck its can do. Also, no shame here. Many of us easily lose quite a bit of time or time that could be otherwise spent to scrolling on social media. So perhaps as well as saying fuck it, we say a bit of a rebellious fuck you to all these platforms who are doing everything to get our attention and do everything in their power to make us glued to our damn phones. So here's to making your creative projects the things that you want to work on, the things that light you up. Here's to saying fuck it and making them the main course or a really hearty sandwich rather than the tiniest piece of chocolate that you eat at the very end of the day. Yes, that can be wonderful and yes, we can really savour it.
But and to completely mix metaphors, your own stuff gets to take centre stage as well and that is absolutely the inspiration between my latest program the Spark because our work matters, our dreams aren't frivolous and we also deserve to feel at home in our own lives and we don't have to burn everything to the ground and we don't have to take an Eat Pray Love style trips to get there. If you're curious, head over to therebelrousers.com/thespark and if nothing else I think what's there might give you some inspiration to reclaim some of your own time and fabulous energy. So here's to not being alone in the fact that life is overwhelming and we all have way too much shit to do. Here's to knowing that you are doing nothing wrong and here's to saying a rebellious fuck it and taking up space in your own life. You can do it. It might be scary but it is so fucking essential. I'll see you tomorrow.
