Episode transcript:

Good morning, daily peppers, and a very happy Wednesday and a very happy hump day. We are We're halfway through the week. And if you are feeling slightly exhausted or knackered as so many of us are right now, Today, I have a reminder that I think we all need to hear. So around here, we are so good Pushing through and just keeping on, keeping on, and it can be one of our biggest strengths. I love a bit of stubbornness, But sometimes, I think it can be to our detriment. I know so many of us have experiences of burnout and pushing ourselves to the point of being ill. And part of the issue is that it's so glorified. Burnout can be seen as a badge of honor.

And let's face it, we live in a society where There are always things that need to be doing, and we could all easily be working 24 hours a day if we let ourselves. So today, I wanna flip this shit on its head a bit and dive into something I know we've talked a little bit about before, And that is changing this concept of rest. Rest is not transactional. Rest is not something you need to earn. It's not the reward for completing all the things on your to do list. It's not the thing that you get to do once you've done everything else. Rest just is. I'm all about celebrating the shit out of your wins, but your celebration should not include things which are basic Human rights.

And you have a right to look after yourself, to rest, and I know that it's gonna look different to everybody. We've all got Different amounts of time and energy available to us in different life circumstances, but the crux of it is whatever rest looks like for you, You do not need to earn it. And, also, this is probably gonna sound quite counterintuitive. Rest also makes us more productive. Not that this is just about being productive, but if there's a kind of alarm bell in your head going off With all the things you need to do, maybe look at it that way. You are so much better equipped to deal with your bulging to do list. When you've been able to step away for a bit and I think we've all been there where we're to the point of exhaustion That it's taken us 3 hours to do quite a simple task, and if we just left it and came back, it'd be such a better use of our time. So this is exactly what I want you to take with you into today.

What kind of rest do you need, and what would it look like to give yourself rest Just because instead of a reward, and how can you build that into your week right now, And honor that commitment to yourself regardless of what you get done this week. So that's my food for thought today. I cannot wait to be back with you tomorrow. We are halfway through the week, over halfway, and I will see you tomorrow, you beautiful human.
