825: Lightening the load (and choosing a new book)
If you need a permission slip to finally let go of that one to-do list item that you've been carrying on for eons, or to finally give up on the book you've been trudging through, today's episode is it!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. It is the start of a new week and we are kicking off this week on the Daily Pep with a massive permission slip. So on a Monday, we tend to think about all the things that we have to do or the things that we didn't get done last week. And inevitably, on many of our to do lists that we've been carrying over since time began. Or at least that's what it feels like. And today I am giving you a massive fuck off side permission slip to let some of that shit go. Now, of course, there are some things that it really isn't logical or practical or sensible to let go of, but there will be things that are. And let's face it, if it has been this long since you haven't done it, then does it really matter that much? And I really want to extend this to our reading as well.
I think so many of us have so many piles of books that we want to read and maybe we are really struggling through one book that's been on our nightstand for at least a couple of months. Well, I think it is time to let that shit go too. Sometimes all it takes is one slow book or a book that we've been trudging through for quite a long time to really deprive us of the joy of reading. And I really believe that life is too short to make ourselves read books that we're not particularly enjoying. So whether it is your to do list or whether it is the book that you're trying to get through, why not give yourself a bit of a fresh start? Remember that forgetting things on your to do list or simply not doing them does not make you a bad person and that realistically. You probably have too much on there that one person could do in the first place anyway. And we also know that as each week goes by, the to do list only gets longer and longer. And to bring up that Karen Martin quote that you might just roll your eyes at, if everything is a priority, nothing is a priority.
So here's the lightning you'll load this week. No matter how small the things are you take off the to do list. Or if it's just about picking a new bloody book, let's face it, we're all trying our best. We all drop the ball sometimes, and very, very rarely are the consequences really serious. So take this on board today, especially if you're feeling really resistant to it. Have a good one and I can't wait to see you back here bright and early, as always, tomorrow morning. See you then.
