541: Here's to the plate spinners

If you feel like you're not getting much done, or you're just not feeling it and want a quick boost - this one's for you!

            Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. I hope you have enjoyed the long weekend, and if today you are struggling or you just can't be fucked, this one is for you. For today's Daily Pep, I really want to dedicate it to all of us around here who are a one-woman band, who do a shitload of stuff that nobody sees and really recognizes, who have a lot on our plates and we balance a load of stuff, who show up in the world with empathy and compassion regardless of what's going on because that's just who we are. And who battle through things that maybe nobody else sees, but we do it anyway and we keep going. Here's the thing, we are so fucking hard on ourselves around here. We always look at the things that we haven't got done, yet so often we don't even tend to see just how much is on our plate because we tend to minimize it and because we tend to just think that it's normal. We have a shitload of projects that we want to do, and because we don't always get around to them, it's so easy to create a parallel universe where we're this lazy version of ourselves. And I just want to tell you that you are not, and you are doing so much better than you think.

It's like that whole saying about a duck— on the surface they seem really calm, but they are paddling like hell underneath. And I see that, and I know how much effort and resilience that takes, and also how much time you have for other people while you're doing it. So today I just want to say cheers to you. Cheers to all of us one woman bandies who might struggle to get shit up, but we show up anyway. And even though the plates might smash sometimes, we generally keep all the plates spinning. We do so much invisible work that nobody else sees, and although we might not always toot our own horns, here's to the shitload of things that we do do, whether we celebrate them or not. So here's to you, my fellow one woman bander, and if you fancy getting shit done and spinning plates with a whole group of women who really just get it, who get what it means to be doing your own thing differently who may be feeling a bit lonely along the journey and want to really make some serious progress in a 100-day chunk with me as your coach, then I'm delighted to announce that One Woman Band Club, my fabulous group coaching program, is open for registration. If you've been around here before, you may know a bit about One Woman Band and know that I usually do two groups.

Well, this time I'm doing one group, so spaces are limited. So if you are intrigued, definitely head over to therebelrousers.com/onewomanband, and on that page you can sign up for a free 30-minute discovery call where it's just me and you and we have a really casual chat about whether it might be a good fit for you. No obligation, no pressure, just basically a nice catch-up over a cup of tea. So you can check that out by going to the link in the show notes. And I just wanna end by saying, however you're feeling today, whatever you do or don't get done, remember that you are enough and everything changes when you believe you matter. See you tomorrow.

538: You're allowed to change your mind

Embrace your stubborn nature, but remember - you're allowed to go back on your decisions.

            Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Thursday to you. Now we kept off this week on the daily pet talking about how you do not have to defend your decisions to anybody, and no one is older at nation or justification on why you make the choices that you do. And I wanna do a bit of a follow-up to that one today. And just to remind you that it's okay to change your mind as well. It's okay to go back on your decisions. And sometimes we do because we are all humans, and to be human is not to have a really linear experience. Now something that is really important, and I say this as a very stubborn person myself, is that we don't get so stubborn That we end up cutting off our nose despite our face. You, my dear, are allowed to change your mind You are allowed to make the best decision for yourself based on what information you have available at the time.

And I know we talked about this a couple of weeks ago, but I wanna bring it up again. What if there is no wrong decision? So that is my food for thought for you today. Remember that you do not have to defend your decisions. And you can also go back on your decisions, and you are perfectly entitled to do that. So here's to stubbornly chasing our dreams, but not so stubbornly that we end up sabotage ourselves along the way. I'll see you tomorrow.

537: Progress, is progress, is progress

If you feel like you're not making progress, today I'm compassionately challenging you.

            Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very, very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day. It is the middle of the week, and I am here to remind you that progress is progress is progress.

So I've been thinking a lot in my own life lately what progress looks like. And one of the things I keep coming back to is this idea of how progress is supposed to look like. We have this idea that we have to move in these really perfect, straight lines. That in order to start something, we have to have a really good plan. And that you have to get to wherever you want to go as fast and as efficiently as possible. But here's the thing, and I know this, and I definitely know that you know this, life often doesn't work like that. Progress can sometimes be really slow. Progress often doesn't feel like progress the same way as courage often doesn't feel like courage.

And sometimes we just take a different route altogether. Be it through circumstance, be it through our own choice, or be it that life just works out that way. But any progress is still progress. You might be frustrated that you're not moving as far as you'd like to, as quick as you'd like to, but as long as you're still moving and you're putting one foot in front of the other, that is absolutely what counts. Let's say you're aiming for something and a certain action is going to get you half the way there. No, it might not be your ideal scenario. It might not be exactly what you were aiming for.

But halfway there is still a fucking big deal. And taking action usually begets action. So here's to knowing that progress doesn't have to look the way that we think it should look. Often we won't recognize signs of progress because we're so used to seeing monumental things as the only signs that we're moving forward. And here's to knowing that any action counts.

So have a good one, happy hump day. And I'm going to stop saying the word progress because it has started to sound very weird to me. I'll see you tomorrow.

531: Rest does not need to be earned

Today's episode is a reminder that we can get far more done with self compassion than self criticism.

                Episode transcript:

Good morning, daily peppers, and a very, very happy Tuesday to you. If you are just not feeling it or if you are being really hard on yourself this week, this is the episode for you. So one of the things I think it's fair to say nearly all of us struggle with around here is being really hard on ourselves, pushing ourselves slightly too hard, and feeling like we have to earn rest. Now I wanna start up by challenging that last one because rest is not transactional. Rest is not something you have to earn and you do not get to meet your own basic needs when you've earned a certain number of productivity points. What I mean by this is I know that I used to set myself certain rewards for doing things like, okay. I'll go out and take a walk when I've got x done. And while on one hand, that can feel motivating, on the other hand, that really is depriving me of something that I know is really good for mental health until I have earned it.

And that's just bullshit. You get to meet your basic needs regardless of what you've done or what you've accomplished or what you've quote earned and to suggest otherwise is really damn cruel to ourselves. So on that note, I just wanna remind you today that that as counterintuitive as it might sound, you do get more done with self kindness and self compassion than you do from self criticism and self flagellation. We've all had those times where we're sitting there making ourselves get work done and we are just too tired and we're not getting much done. And we know we would be much better off either coming back to it later or having a bit of a rest, but we deprive ourselves of that because our society is always about pushing through no matter what and how productivity is always king which it is not. So whatever you're working on at the moment, whatever you are struggling with, whatever you've got on your plate, I invite you to just think about what it would look like and what it would feel like to do it with more compassion. Chances are you would probably come to a resolution more quickly. Chances are it would feel better, and I think you might surprise yourself.

So that is your food for thought for today. Have a good one, and remember that you are not lazy no matter what your inner dream shitter would have you believe. I'll see you tomorrow.

                              Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very, very happy Thursday to you. So Part of what we're doing this week on The Daily Pep is we are really diving into figuring out your superpowers and your zone of genius. We kicked off yesterday by diving into how the things that come easy to you may not come easy to other people, And that can be a huge clue when it comes to figuring out your zone of genius. And today, I want to give you a pep Talk around the things that you can do quite quickly. So behind the scenes, I have set myself a bit of a 3 day challenge. Last week, I ran the Fuck the Cobwebs workshop. And as part of the prep for that, I came up with 20 creative ways to battle your inner dream shitter. And it was all laid out on my whiteboard, and I thought, this would make a great ebook.

I could expand on the different areas, theme things together, Really go into the theory, make it nice and practical, and it probably wouldn't take a huge amount of time. So in the spirit of experimenting and finishing things And just being me, I thought, right, 3 days, that's what I'm gonna give myself to see if I can get this done. And I've noticed something really curious while writing it, And I've noticed it before, and I think you may have too. As I'm doing it, it's coming together pretty quickly. Going back to yesterday's episode, it doesn't feel like a particularly mammoth task. But the fact that it's coming easy And the fact that it is coming together really quickly is making me seriously doubt myself. It is making me wonder if there's anything of Value there, and it's bringing up all these questions. But here's what I know to be true and is something that I tell other people all the time.

Things that come quickly to you are because you've put the work in. By the time we come to sit down to do projects, Sometimes they automatically go a bit quicker because we have been thinking about them for a long time. They are things that have been bouncing around our heads And I've been percolating for quite some time so that when it comes to actually doing them, and obviously, this depends on the medium that you're doing it in, It's kind of a case of downloading your brain to the page. You've done a lot of the heavy lifting. You've done a lot of the thinking, and it's just about getting it out of there. Yet when we do get it out of our brain, exactly like I'm sharing with you now about my own experiences, We really start to doubt ourselves. We think that we must be some kind of fraud or and I know this is a big one. We think we're doing something wrong.

But today, I'm really calling bullshit on that both for me and for you. It reminds me a bit of the stuff we See on Instagram and TikTok around makers talking about how, yeah, they may be able to do things quite quickly or make it look really easy, But what you don't see is all of the toil and all of the hours it took to get there and all the things that come before it. So here's just both embracing that if you are doing something quickly and if it feels like it comes easy to you, there is probably a reason You have worked for it, and you are not doing anything wrong. A big theme here on The Daily PEP is keeping going, And we know that can be really tough. So when it comes to times when we feel like we're in the flow and things are just happening, And let's just try to enjoy it because we have earned it. Not everything has to feel like a battle. We get to actually enjoy our work, and imagine if we could embrace that and really enjoy it Rather than questioning it to begin with, I look forward to being back with you bright and early tomorrow morning. And for now, I've got a shit tonne of writing to go and do. So I'm gonna go do that, and I'm gonna enjoy it. And I will see you later.
