1169: Make your own game

As Kacey Musgraves sings, "you're damned if you do, and you're if you don't, so you might as well do whatever you want." And we're seriously leaning into that today!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers. And a very happy Friday to you. So I figured we'd wrap up this week on The Daily Pep with a bit of a sassy one. And it is this. No matter what you decide to do with your life and no matter how you decide to spend your time, there are always gonna be people that have different ideas for you. There are also gonna be the people that you could do exactly what they say and what they recommend and what they do, and they would still have an issue with it. You can spend your life bending to what you think is the will of everybody around you and making them happy, and chances are it's not gonna make them happy, and it's certainly not gonna make yourself happy. So for today, I am recommending a huge dose of fuck it.

The Kacey Musgraves lyrics come to mind of you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't, so you might as well do whatever you want Seriously come to mind here. And I think if you don't wanna play the game and you can't win the game, you might as well make up your own with your own rules and do what works for you. And you might not know what works for you, and that's okay too because we're not really encouraged to find that out for ourselves. So much of the time, we are bombarded by what other people think we should do, what we think we should do, that we very rarely spend much time on the things that we could do. And I think we'd all be better off putting that energy that we put into pleasing everybody else into figuring out what we want and seeing how we can do that. Now I know we all have wildly different contexts, and we can't just up and do whatever the fuck we like all the time. I understand that. But how can we do things in the micro moments? How can we have the micro rebellions? And how can you say, fuck it? So that is my food for thought as we end this week.

As always, it's a joy to spend my days with you. I hope you find some unexpected joy this weekend. If you want more rebel rousing and you're not part of my letters of rebellion community, I'd love to see you there, and you can join them by going to therebelrousers.comforward/letters, where my aim really is to prove the point that building a life you love does take a shitload of courage and I share my own journey in doing that. But we don't have to do it alone. See you on Sunday for my letter of rebellion or back here bright and early on Monday. As always, here for the daily pep. Take care.
