1339: When in doubt, try this…

To wrap up the week I’m sharing a low-pressure way to get clearer on making that decision!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So this week in the Daily Pep, we've been diving into all things decision making, and I've got a fun one to end the week. So I think that there's a whole bunch of little, silly, and playful things we can do that can really help us understand what we want. So if you've got a decision to make right now, however small it is or however big it is, I want you to try this. Let's say there are two main options to choose from. I want you to write each option on an identical piece of paper, fold it up, close your eyes, ask yourself the question on what you're deciding, and pick one. Now before you think I've lost it, that is step one. Step two then is the most important one, and it is to really pay attention to your first reaction when you read what option you've picked.

Because what's gonna happen in a lot of scenarios is either you're gonna feel relieved or you're gonna feel disappointed. And I think this is just a really, really handy trick to just get that bit of data. That's not to say this is the final way to make your decision, but it's a really good way of finding out what you really want if your gut and your intuition feel absolutely silent and you're really, really stuck. If you realize you would have been happy regardless of which one you picked, that is also really good information to know. And maybe for that one, it's about remembering, like we were talking about on Monday's episode, that there is no one right perfect choice. And then you can throw in another whole way of making decisions in there. Like, what would you in five years' time be grateful that you've chosen? If you were choosing based on integrity, what choice would you make? Or if joy was your lens, what choice would you make? Now on the other hand, if you realize that neither of those choices sound particularly good, then it is time to get creative. That's when you wanna start that list of 20 things you could do or 20 choices you could make.

And I choose 20 because it's after ten that the ideas start and pretty wild and a bit bizarre. And, also, sometimes the magic really happens. So if you're feeling stuck on something, whether it is as small as what to have for tea or as big as should you leave your job, Try this on for size. It's really simple. It's quite fun. If you've got no paper nearby, use a coin and really tune into that first reaction. Not the reaction you think you should have, but whether your heart sinks, whether it soars, or whether it does neither. I hope you've enjoyed this week's deep dive on all things decision making.

I would love to know whether this format resonates with you. If there's any topics you'd like me to do a themed week on, send me an email over to meg@therebelrousers.com. Or I know you can do this if you listen on Spotify. Leave a comment. I hope you have a weekend as fabulous as you are. And if that is not an option, be as gentle with yourself as you can be. And I look forward to seeing you in your inbox on Sunday or in your ears on Monday. Take care.
