1349: You're a competent sailor!
Today we’re making space for small wins, gentle self-reflection, and a tiny act of kindness for next week’s you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So, on the daily prep this week, we have been diving into everything sea and nautical seed. And I wanted to end the week with a powerful reminder I think a lot of us need to hear right now, and something that might just make you feel a bit more capable of handling life's challenges. So we've been talking about boats a lot this week in terms of how we can't control the wind, but we can direct the sails, finding our own anchors and non negotiables and how we don't always need to pull the boat out of water or do a massive overhaul to make changes. I was thinking about how to wrap up this week and I decided that the most helpful thing I can tell you and remind you is that you already are a fucking good sailor. For many of us, we have survived many choppy moments at sea. We have got through hard times. We have successfully navigated downright bizarre things.
And while we might not know everything about the sea and all of its mysteries, we do know a lot. We have navigated so many things with skill, with creativity, and so much problem solving. Yet I think we're the first to completely discount our own experience. When we look at all the what ifs, we forget that we're actually pretty fucking resilient and we might know a thing or two. And here's the thing, it is not about being the world's best sailor. It is about being a competent sailor. And you are a competent sailor. You have so many more skills than you think you do.
You are way better equipped than you think you are. And you've already survived many choppy days at sea. So today, have a bit of faith in yourself. You may not be exactly where you want to be, but look at what you have done. And if you're struggling to find what you have done with, remember that we all have a built in negativity bias and also a confirmation bias. And it can be hard seeing what we've done. So definitely enlist a friend or loved one if this feels hard and if that doesn't feel too vulnerable, if it does feel too vulnerable or you fancy some journaling, make a list of 10 things you got through or 10 things you did that maybe you've forgotten and allow yourself to be surprised. Sometimes we are exactly on course.
Sometimes we stray off course. And other times we come across a completely unexpected island altogether. And that is normal. That is a part of life. Sometimes it can be an absolute delight, other times it can be absolutely shitty. But know that you can navigate the boat and you can navigate the water. And it's also okay to drop the anchor. Just float for a bit.
So that is a wrap for this week and our boat and sailing and sea theme here on the Daily Pep. And one last really cheesy pun to leave you with. Remember, to sailor brate your wins this week. I'll see you on Monday.
