1350: It’s okay to be grumpy

This Monday on the Daily Pep! we’re embracing the art of showing up imperfectly and learning why sometimes not fixing everything is the kindest thing you can do for yourself.

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. Whether you're feeling it or you're feeling shit, the daily Pep is here to start your day with a compassionate bang. And to start this week and to start your Monday, I want to remind you that not all weeks have to be brilliant. It is okay if you feel grumpy. It's okay if you just can't be fucked to try and be the best version of yourself. It's okay if you're not feeling particularly excited about this week. And it's okay if you look at your to do list and you just groan. Now, obviously I don't want that for you, but I think it can sometimes be really helpful to just meet yourself where you're at.

I know personal development and self improvement is pretty important for a lot of us around here, but sometimes trying to fix every part of your life can just be exhausting. And sometimes you just need a week where you get to be grumpy, where you allow yourself to feel dissatisfied about some things, where maybe you throw yourself a pity party and you don't try to fix everything. I know for myself and so many people around here that feeling shit about feeling shit is a very real spiral. And I wonder how we can take ourselves out of that this week. Maybe you're not really feeling it this week and you can't be asked to give 100%. And maybe that's actually okay. And maybe if you intentionally decided that you're only going to really focus on the essentials this week, it ends up being a much better and kinder week because you've taken that pressure off a bit. Maybe it's okay that you don't feel motivated or super excited to do something.

And maybe in being okay with that, something else bubbles up that's even better. Or maybe you sleep a bit better or feel a bit more able to relax, which is huge. So as we enter a new week, I just want to remind you that it's okay to be grumpy. It's okay not to be in the mood for it. It's okay to be less than excited about what you've got on ahead this week. And maybe shrugging your shoulders and being as kind to yourself as possible is going to be so much more helpful than trying to fix everything. Remember that your inner dream shitter is a liar. It will say exactly what it needs to, to get you to stop doing the scary thing.

It will poke you in the most tender places because it knows you really, really well. But it is not a voice of reason, and it is not a voice of truth. You can do way more than you think you're capable of. And if you just can't be fucked and need to put yourself into maintenance mode, you get to do that, too. I'll see you tomorrow.
