Today we’re getting practical! I’ve got a fun quest to give you some hope over the next couple of months.

Episode transcript:

Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Wednesday to you. So today's episode is incredibly practical and I've got a bit of a challenge or some actions for you to do we're doing. The action itself is just as juicy as the benefit. I know we've all got a shit ton to do, so don't worry, this is a fun one. So today or tomorrow, I want you to find one thing to look forward to for each of the next three months. As I'm recording this, it is just the start of summer and maybe you're listening to this as we're entering a different season, but it doesn't matter because this applies regardless of the time of year. Now, the way I see it, when you plan something to look forward to, there are three benefits. First, you've obviously got the future enjoyment of doing the thing that you're looking forward to.

Then you've got the looking forward to it and the anticipation that can be just as good as the thing and can be the exact fuel you need to keep going on the hard days. And let's face it, it's just really nice having something really joyful coming up in the calendar. And then the third thing you've got is it's actually quite fun finding the thing. Often we get so bogged down in day to day life that we forget to see what's going on in our community in the wider world. And often we can give ourselves a hard time for going down those rabbit holes because we tend to do it when we're procrastinating. We forget that that can actually be an activity in and of itself. So my challenge is for you to find one thing for each of the next three months and just get curious and see what you want to do. You might find that there's some fabulous makers market coming up.

You might find that a TV show is coming back and you're really excited about the next season. Or what might spring to mind is not necessarily an exact event, but you realize there's a friend you haven't caught up with in a while and it would be really good to get a date in the diary. Remember, it doesn't have to be huge. Ideally, it doesn't even have to cost money. And it can be fun simply for fun's sake. And if you are coming across resistance with this, here's a helpful reminder. The way I see it is we spend so much of our time future tripping already. We spend a lot of time thinking about what could go wrong, about worrying about the future.

So if we're already semi living in the future, then why not spend some time putting some things in the future that you actually want to do? I hope in your search for three things, you come across some things that really excite you, that are maybe quite unexpected and really give you something to look forward to. In a world where it often feels like hope is a hard thing to come by intentionally finding hope is a radical act. Enjoy the rabbit holes, dive into the unexpected, and have a good time finding your three things. I'll see you tomorrow.
