Today's episode is inspired by the wonderful Barbra Streisand, and we're taking an unconventional approach to getting sh*t done!

Episode transcript:

Good morning daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So as part of my latest project, the Hope revival, I really enjoyed putting together an eclectic mix of quotes and I thought I would share one of them today as a humpty reminder that we get to do the good things first. So the quote is from the fabulous Barbra Streisand, who says, life's too short. Start with dessert. And it really got me thinking about how much we put off the stuff that maybe we really want to do. Until we've done the practical things, until we've reached the end of our to do list, it always feels like the right choice and the right thing to do. But I don't know about you, but by the time I've done all of the shoulds, and let's face it, not that many of them are completely world endingly important, I have run out of energy for the things that I really wanted to do. Or to kind of relate it back to the quote, I'm way too full for dessert.

And when you do that over a long period of time, life can stop feeling satisfying and it can just feel like one big massive to do list. And the irony here is that actually if we did some of the things we're looking forward to first, we'd probably have more energy and less resistance to doing the things that we don't want to do. We might not feel quite so resentful and they might be easier lifts because we're more resourced. As humans, we all know that there is never going to be a time where we have done absolutely everything and there is no perfect moment where we're suddenly going to feel free to do all the things we want to do without having a nagging feeling at the back of our head of the things that we should be doing. So I say fuck it. Let's experiment with starting with dessert first. And like, desserts can be wildly rich and sometimes you don't need that much of them. You might be surprised that actually doing a little of what you've been wanting to do makes a massive impact on your everyday life and how you feel about doing everything else.

So often we're telling ourselves subconsciously or consciously that our needs can wait. We can wait. We just need to get the important things out of the way. But what if for once, we are the important thing and it's a non urgent stuff on our to do list that can wait. So that's my food for thought for you today. Happy hump day and I'll see you tomorrow.
