Episode transcript:

Good morning Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. So on Wednesdays is hump day and chances are you might need an extra dose of motivation to get through the week. So here goes. Now I love this whole question about what our future self will be grateful for. It can be such a good way of putting things into perspective, into deciding what really does actually matter. And also we tend to be a whole lot more compassionate with our future selves rather than our current selves. But we also know that our inner dreamshitter will weaponize anything. So rather than it being a really gentle, compassionate question, I just end up thinking about all the shit I should be doing for my future self and I put even more on my current self's plate.

So today we are taking the power back from our inner dreamshitter and we're coming at the question from a different angle. So when it comes to thinking about what future us would be grateful for, rather than give her a shitload more to do, lets take some stuff off her plate. Is there anything that you've been meaning to say no to? Is there anything that you can intentionally decide not to do? And if you're feeling conflicted about saying no to something, have a think about the flip side of it. What would saying no allow you to do? What would you be able to say yes to and get curious and see what comes up? Future you probably doesn't need more things to do, and she would probably be much more grateful if you booked in some time with yourself, you cancelled some plans, and you said no to some stuff that you regretted saying yes to the minute you agreed to it. It's okay to tell people you're at capacity. It is more than okay to choose yourself. And chances are the future things that you're going to take off your plate will probably make your current self feel relieved as well. So two birds, one scone.

Have a think about what comes up for you. Get brave about saying no. And here's to being kinder to our current and future selves.
