1441: Lean into the kinder stories
Today's episode is a loving reminder that for as loud and as convincing as your inner dreamsh*tter can be, it really truly is a liar.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Tuesday to you. So one of the things that we all have in common around here is that we are creative. Whether that is traditionally creative in terms of we love getting our hands covered in paint, or the ways in which we approach creating our lives and designing our own paths. Now, I've had a bit of a theory for a while now that our dream chitter also has access to our creativity. And because of that, it can go really wild when it comes to the bullshit it makes up. Our creativity lets it do even more advanced mental gymnastics. And we can be really creative when it comes to conjuring up all the ways things can go wrong and all of the catastrophes. And that also extends to the stories we can maybe create about what other people think about us.
That couldn't be further than the truth. But like many creative things, it's so easy just to get lost in it. And when our dream shitter gets creative, well, it can really lead you down the garden path. So for today's daily pep, I simply want to pop in and remind you that your dream shitter is a fucking liar. It may sound convincing as hell, and that's because it has access to your most tender parts and it knows what buttons to push. And mix that with your fabulous creativity, well, you are in for a hell of a ride. I used to have a postcard in my office that read, worrying is a misuse of imagination. And on some days I'd look at it and think, I'll just fuck off.
And on other days I'd think, actually, if I am so good at using my imagination to conjure up all this awful shit, then can't I use it to actually look at what might go right as well? So I'm sharing this today just in case your dream shitter is giving you a really hard time or you're getting lost in stories that probably aren't true, to remind you that as convincing as your inner dream shitter is, it is a liar. It can be so painful precisely because it knows what to say to stop you from doing the scary thing. And it knows what will hurt. But you are so much bigger than your inner dream shitter. You can create way better stories, way kinder stories. And that's ultimately what I wanted to remind you of today. Lean into the kinder stories and see if you can have some fun with your creativity. So that's all for now.
I can't wait to be back with you tomorrow. Take care. And please keep remembering that everything changes when you believe you matter. And you, my darling do.
