1445: A way to reclaim your creative inspiration

We all tend to carry the heavy weight of ghosts of projects past, so today I’ve got a prompt and permission slip for you!

Episode transcript:

Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So being multi passionate and creative is kind of like a double edged sword. On one hand, we never run out of things to do and we have all the ideas. And on the other hand, we also beat ourselves up for not necessarily doing all of the ideas and having a bunch of unfinished projects. I know through my own life and through working with hundreds of creative women that our unfinished projects weigh heavy on us. They often bring a fair amount of shame, and they can very much feel like ghosts of projects past. And while we're sat here thinking of all the things we haven't done, it can completely get in the way when it comes to getting inspired about something, getting excited, or getting motivated because we simply don't give ourselves the permission to do the new shiny thing. We feel like we have to do the old thing, but we don't want to do the old thing.

And it can just feel a bit shit. So for this week, why don't you just go there? Imagine somebody was to miraculously take all of those unfinished projects and put them in storage, really safe for you, and you can go back and get them anytime. And you have absolute permission to do whatever you actually want to do. This magic storage facility that contains all of your ghosts of projects past is shame proof. They're not in the corner of the room glaring at you, and you are free to do what you actually want to do. And what I want you to do today is ask yourself that what would you do? Don't worry about whether you're actually going to do it. Don't worry about the logistics. Just see what comes up for you.

Because we can often feel stuck. We often don't know which direction to go in because the weight of past projects pulls us down. We carry shame around us about feeling flaky, and we curse our ability to find shiny new objects rather than see it as a superpower. By just imagining what permission you would give yourself can be a great way of seeing what you actually authentically want to do in the next season of your life. And it might actually give you some answers and some inspiration that you've been looking for. If I could invent that magic storage room, believe me, I would. But for now, what we can do is start rewriting the stories that that we hold around unfinished projects and give ourselves permission to just explore the idea of not finishing them. I hope you have a Monday.

As fabulous as you are. Here's to your wonderful creative brain. And here's to knowing. Even if you don't feel at all inspired. It will come back. I'll see you tomorrow.
