If you're feeling stuck, intimidated, or overwhelmed and just can't get yourself moving, this one's for you!
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Wednesday to you. It is hump day, we are over halfway through the week, and if you are finding yourself procrastinating on something, if you can't seem to get moving, or if you're feeling a bit overwhelmed, this one is for for you. So today I want to remind you that a lot of the time you don't have to do everything all at once, and you don't have to complete a project in one go. Oftentimes when I'm really struggling to get myself to do something, it's because I'm going balls to the wall and I'm just trying to get the whole fucker done rather than just start the next tiny step. Sometimes for my brain, it doesn't count if I don't do it all at once, and what that often means, as I'm sure you can relate to, is that it doesn't happen in general, or it happens a lot later. So what are you overwhelmed by, or what are you putting off because the monumental effort of getting it all done feels too much and you're seeing that as the only way to do it. I know breaking it down into steps is the oldest thing in the book, and we rollerize it, but I think there's some truth to it. And it can also just be really helpful taking things apart and figuring out what are the mini projects within the project, and which of those could you do right now.
I'm a huge fan of starting anywhere leading by where you feel most energized, or maybe the bit you hate the least. And while this might not work for everything, because some things do have to follow a pretty particular order, it can be a good way in if it's applicable. So this week, where are you buying into the myth that it all has to be done in one sitting, and how can you make it a bit fucking easier for yourself? And to go back to another one of the oldest tricks in the book, what would you say to a friend? How would you recommend they do it? What advice would you give them? So as we head into the second part of the week, here's to leaning into imperfect action. Be mindful of rules that you're setting yourself that don't actually exist, and know that action begets action. So starting on something completely different is probably also going to help you get started or get stuck into that thing you're avoiding or feels intimidating because you're already in motion. Have a good one. I will see you tomorrow or in your inbox later today if you're part of my email community, where I've been trialing something called Wildcard Wednesdays where I share some really fun and eclectic shit I've found, things I'm enjoying and also just pop into your inbox with a midweek dose of delight. You can join by going to therebelrousers.com/letters, and I hope you do because I'm sharing some really fun projects today and also a really helpful framework that is really helping me get motivated and focused.
See you later in your inbox, tomorrow in your ears, and remember, as always, that everything changes when you believe you matter.
