1564: This will make your next Monday better
Today I'm sharing with you a really helpful and easy practice to give your next week's self a compassionate start to the week!
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers, and a very happy Friday to you. So it is the end of the week, and I reckon a Friday at the end of the week is a great time to somehow give our Monday self a pep talk. I've talked about this idea of your future self on previous episodes of the Daily Pep and I still maintain that we are usually much kinder to our future selves and have more compassion to our future selves than we do our present selves. And the thing about a Friday is that we tend to be done. We might be fresh out of facts, we may be so ready for the weekend, and we may be exhausted. And chances are, the pep talk or the bit of wisdom we would give to our Monday selves, well, we just don't hold back. We know what we need next week and we've just got that clarity. One of the things that we used to do in my now retired signature program One Woman Band Club was every Friday when we gathered to toot our horns, I would invite everybody to write write down a piece of wisdom for their next Monday selves.
And on our call on that following Monday, I would share it with them. And every single time. It was amazing. Just the intuition and the clarity and just how exactly spot on it was. So this Friday I invite you to do it for yourself. It only has to be maximum a line long. It can also be one or two words. Just get still for a second and think about what does Monday you need to hear.
And chances are you know exactly what that is. And part two is you find a way to share that with yourself. Now I find scheduling emails to myself really helpful for this. If you for example, know you're not going to look at your planner or your laptop until Monday, post it note can do a great job. Or you might find a fun alternative way. The important thing is is you get it out of your head. You get it somewhere and you put it somewhere that Monday you will find it. And believe me, we did this for over five years and it never ever stopped being magical.
And we were also always so amazed at how it just completely interrupts you in the dream chitter and just stops some of that Monday panic. Because you're rooted into what is really important. So what does your Monday self need to hear? Don't judge it. Trust what comes up. Find a way to share it with yourself. And go into next week knowing that you've got your own back. I hope whatever you're doing this weekend, you do something for you. You find some unexpected joy and that you remember as always that everything changes when you believe you matter. I look forward to being in your inbox on Sunday if you're part of my wonderful email community, and you can join that by going to therebelrousers.com/letters or back in your lug holes on Monday. Either way, I'll see you then.
