1640: Being flexible with the season you're in
If you're resisting the current season you're in, or you wish you were in another one, today's pep talk is all about giving yourself some grace, and some much needed flexibility.
Episode transcript:
Good morning, Daily Peppers, and a very happy Monday to you. So I am back in the UK. I took a bit of a longer break than I planned to, and I am back with a message about flexibility, which I know I probably need more than you do. So we tend to be rebels, we tend to really value flexibility, but sometimes it can be really hard to be flexible with ourselves. For whatever reason, lately I've been struggling a lot with my blood sugars and just exhaustion, and I've really noticed just how harsh I'm being on myself and also how much I just want to know all the answers. But I've noticed that that is just taking more of my energy, and if I was to accept that maybe this is a season where I need to be more flexible with myself, I think not only would I be a lot kinder to myself, it probably would be a much more enjoyable season as well. I speak a lot about cyclical living and living in seasons, and sometimes it's just really hard when we resist the season we're in, and it can take courage to look at what the actual season is if you wish you were in another one. In terms of how I'm accepting this season and the fact that my capacity has changed, Well, I'm just trying to fight myself a bit less, take it day by day, and give myself grace to slow down.
There are about a million and one things that I want to do to work on my business. There are so many plans that I need to put in place, and I'm just trying to remember and figure out which ones are actually urgent, which ones I've attached some false urgency to, and which ones are a should that aren't really that important in the first place, or just attached to ego. So if you too find yourself in a bit of an unexpected season, or your capacity has changed, or life is demanding you to be more flexible, mainly I just want to say I'm with you, and it is frustrating. And if we can find a way to be even just 20% less harsh to ourselves, that can make a really big difference. Remember that when we value flexibility and freedom, we get to apply that to ourselves too, and remember that adjusting your own expectations is not a sign of failure, It is just very necessary and part of being human. And remember that being a bit less shit towards ourselves can feel very radical and uncomfortable in a world that really prioritizes hustling and just keeping going no matter what the cost. And I know we don't align with that around here, so let's try and treat ourselves a bit differently. As we start a new week, I hope you find something that gives you some unexpected joy, and I can't wait to be back with you tomorrow. I'll see you then. Bye.
