1624: A reminder about breaks
Today I'm sharing a helpful distinction between rest and recovery that I learned from Tara Mohr that I think we all need to hear.
Episode transcript:
Good morning Daily Peppers and a very happy Friday to you. Now, would you believe it that my three months in Bulgaria is coming to an end this weekend? We're heading back to the UK tomorrow and all of next week I'm going to be taking a mini summer break and pulling episodes from the archives while I give myself a bit of time just to be to be with loved ones, to be in familiar environments. And the reason I'm sharing that today is I want to remind you that it's okay to take a break from your projects and things you love as well. And consistency does not always have to look like consistency with a capital C and you have to bake your own needs and your own desires into the process. For the vast majority of my life I have just pushed myself until I've burnt out and been forced to take a break. And it can be really uncomfortable taking a break just before you need one because it feels like it goes against so much of the, albeit bullshit, productivity advice that so many of us are just surrounded by. I remember back during the pandemic, the fabulous Tara Mohr, author of one of my favourite books, Playing Big, did these live sessions every week and one of them was all about the difference between rest and recovery.
And it has really, really stuck with me because I've realised that I don't want to always be pushing myself so hard that I always skip the rest mode because I always just end up in recovery mode and then straight back to it. So have a think about in your own life, your own relationship with rest and recovery and think about if there's anything or any projects that you need to take a break from. Remember that taking a break before you need a break is actually a really strategic and sensible move. And in the meantime I will be hanging out over on Instagram. I've recently started being back there more. So if there's anything you would love a pep talk around when I'm back, please message me and let me know. And I also really share the most vulnerable and helpful bits of my own wins and wobbles. And every Sunday with my fabulous email community, as well as a really eclectic roundup on a Wednesday of just really cool shit I've found that I know you'll love that have either really brightened my week or made a big difference.
So if you're not part of the email community, I would love you to come and join us. You can do that by going over to therebelrousers.com/letters that's also in the show note with my Instagram and I hope you have some rest as well as recovery this weekend. Have a fabulous one and I'll see you soon.
